🥒🌶️🍆I'm appreciating working with owner Wesley Miyamoto to bring Japanese specialties like red and green shiso, shish*to peppers, hot santaka peppers, aonaga jibai cucumbers, and kurume eggplants to the community. And of course lots of tasty tomatoes too 🍅

Did you know that Miyamoto was established in the 1950's, and that Wesley is carrying on the work of his grandparents Dentaro and Yone Miyamoto? Check out their store on Victoria Street in Westmount for lots of Japanese treats!

When your plant babies are still too young to be having babies...🤦🏽‍♀️ Removed the tiny fruits and flowers to encourage more vegetative (leaf) growth! But soon we'll have LOTS of beautiful Japanese Shish*to peppers from these strong thriving plants! 💪🏽🫑

🌱 It's finally time! With the weather starting to warm at the end of May, we can plant our seedlings in the garden. We're partnering with local Japanese grocery for a seedling pop-up sale.

Have you heard of the Montreal melon? It's an ancestral variety that was lost and rediscovered in the 90s. It was historically grown in the Côte-des-Neiges - Nôtre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of the city and has a netted exterior like a Cantaloup - that's how 's Cantaloup collective garden got its name! It's well known for its sweet taste with a reportedly nutmeg-like flavour.

At my own community garden meeting tonight, a gardener brought this seed kit and we decided to start a group Montreal melon project. Our goal is to be able to share it with all of the gardeners at our harvest festival in September. I'm excited to start the seeds at home this week! 🍈
