Lasalle, on s'en vient! 🐐 🌱

Des chèvres à LaSalle… Oui, vous avez bien lu! 🐐🌿

Le mercredi 24 juin 2026, en journée, des chèvres seront au travail au parc de l’Aqueduc dans le cadre d’une initiative d’éco‑pâturage.

Cette méthode écologique permet de contrôler durablement les espèces envahissantes, dont le sumac vinaigrier et d’autres plantes envahissantes. Une méthode écologique, sans bruit, sans déchets et sans pesticides.

Consignes à respecter :
🚫Ne pas nourrir
🚫Ne pas toucher
✅Chien en laisse

Cette initiative s’inscrit dans les orientations du Plan local de transition écologique de LaSalle 2025-2030. 🌱

En cas d’intempéries, l’activité sera reportée au 1er juillet 2026.

We were asked to tackle an area with invasive poison ivy. We brought a herd of 15 goats over two days (a total of 12 hours). How do you think they did?

On nous a demandé de venir brouter une espace avec beaucoup d’herbe à puce. On a amené un troupeau de 15 chèvres qui ont brouté pendant 2 jours (12 heures en total). Que pensez-vous du résultat ?

Ville de Baie-D'Urfé / Town of Baie-D'Urfé on s’en vient! 🐐 🌱

🐐 𝗨𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗲́𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗮̀ 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗲-𝗗’𝗨𝗿𝗳𝗲́!
Dans le cadre de nos efforts de gestion environnementale, des chèvres visiteront prochainement certains secteurs de la Ville afin d’aider au contrôle de l’herbe à puce et du nerprun, sans utilisation de pesticides.

Cette méthode naturelle permet non seulement de limiter les espèces envahissantes, mais aussi d’offrir une solution respectueuse de l’environnement.

As part of our environmental management efforts, goats will soon be visiting certain areas of the Town to help control poison ivy and buckthorn without the use of pesticides.

This natural method not only helps limit invasive species, but also provides an environmentally friendly solution.

In the fall of 2025, we and teamed up with the McGill School of Environmental .environment undergraduate students to study goat grazing behaviours, specifically focusing on invasive species management such as buckthorn 🍃

We’re grateful to the .arboretum for letting us “borrow” their forested areas to study buckthorn control by goats🌳

Thank you to the .arboretum for having us demonstrate invasive species management by goats as part of their 80th anniversary! Many stopped by to see Beanie and Bijou (mama and daughter) in action and to learn about the benefits of grazing. Lots of buckthorn was had today… If you’d like to bring goats and other animals to your municipality, please reach out! 🍂 🌱 🐐

🌿🐐 How does it work? 🚛

Before any grazing project begins, we start with a plan! ✏️

1️⃣ We identify and map out the area that needs grazing.
2️⃣ We estimate how long the herd will take — from a single day to a few weeks.
3️⃣ Then it’s time for the goats (and other animals) to get to work! 🐐💪

Each animal plays a role — goats are especially skilled at tackling invasive plants. 🌱
We fence the site, provide water and shelter, and make sure the animals stay safe and comfortable. After their “shift,” they head back home to the farm for some well-earned rest. 🌾💤
