We were honoured to be selected as a finalist in last year’s 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 competition and to have our housing-focused work recognized alongside so many inspiring place-based projects from across Canada.

It’s exciting to see the 2026 Cohort: Call for Ideas now open, led by the School of Cities and the Canadian Urban Institute. This year’s program continues to spotlight bold, locally rooted solutions that are already making a difference in communities; strengthening infrastructure, supporting inclusive and sustainable growth, improving mobility, and building stronger regional partnerships.

We’re especially encouraged to see the continued focus on scaling proven ideas that enhance quality of life and Canada’s competitiveness, with $10,000 in support for standout solutions and opportunities to share at the Canadian Urban Institute’s State of Canada’s Cities Summit in Ottawa this fall.

We look forward to seeing the 2026 submissions and celebrating the incredible work being done across the country once again.

Meet our President and CEO, Melinda Zytaruk, MES, BCIN.

As a Certified Passive House Builder and BCIN Designer with a master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Melinda has dedicated her career to environmental, community, social, and economic sustainability.

She is an active volunteer in the community, serving as a founding board member of the Lake of Bays Renewable Energy Co-op, a founding member and past Chair of the Muskoka Community Land Trust, and Vice Chair of the Muskoka Housing Task Force.

Melinda loves gardening and swimming in the summer, cross-country skiing in the winter, and is grateful to live, work, and build a community in Muskoka.

Smart, high-performance membranes make it possible to build with natural materials efficiently, reliably and at scale. Smart membranes prevent moisture from entering the building assembly, without inadvertently trapping moisture where it doesn’t belong, like conventional vapour barriers often do. 🍃

Cellulose and wood-fibre insulation are both natural, recycled, carbon-storing insulation choices. They actively store more carbon than is emitted during the materials’ manufacturing processes. 🌲

Buildings constructed to Passive House standards allow for heating and cooling-related energy savings of up to 90% compared with typical building stock and over 75% compared with average new builds. 🔨
