Good stewardship doesn’t come from perfection.

It comes from relationship.

Letting native plants emerge.
Planting species that thrive naturally.
Learning your invasives early.
Allowing space for natural “mess.”
Building soil instead of degrading it.

This is the foundation of restorative landscaping — working with living systems, not against them.

Most of the change starts with paying attention 🌱

Do you know what you’re ’w**ding’ out of your garden? 🤔

Almost every property has really beautiful native plants trying their BEST to become established.

Often they are misidentified as ‘w**ds’ and a huge opportunity is lost. Not only are these plants, beautiful, beneficial, and likely the lowest maintenance option possible - they also tell us really cool information about our property and the direction that nature is tugging us in.

So before you pull a w**d, get to know its name (we love the Seek App) and learn a little about it - you may find you have some pretty special species popping up!

The Yellowpoint Modern Meadow is complete 💫

From design kickoff to build completion in less than 5 months. This has been a super efficient project - and one of our very favourite transformations (see final photos for this yard before)

A credit to the wonderful clients who trusted the vision and a top knotch team to pull it together. Also the beautiful home that sets the backdrop recently renovated by 😍

Cheers to for bringing to life the patio and getting the irrigation system rigged up. And for lending extra muscle during prep and install. Beauty PNW native plants provided by 🌱

Upcoming opportunities for invasive removal 🌱

Did you know that invasive plants like English Ivy, Scotch Broom and Daphne crowd out native plants reducing biodiversity, spread pests and plant diseases and harm other species that rely on native plants?

Let's "PULL TOGETHER" to rid our community of invasive plants by joining in on one of our upcoming scheduled work parties:

SUN, MAY 17 - Invasive plant removal at East Wellington, 10 am-12 pm (150822)

🌿✨ EARTH DAY GIVEAWAY ✨🌿

Your yard might feel small compared to planet Earth—but it plays a big role in your community’s ecosystem.

We’re giving away a 30-minute Property Consult to help you better understand your yard—what’s growing (native & invasive species), what opportunities for improvement there are, and how thoughtful changes could reduce maintenance and support the health of the broader landscape.

It’s a simple entry point into property stewardship—caring for your land in a way that benefits both your property and the ecosystems around it.

We’ll help you:
• Identify what’s already growing on your property
• Navigate invasive plant removal + management
• Choose plants that belong and will thrive
• Build toward a more resilient, living landscape

Whether you’re just getting curious or ready to make changes, this is a great place to start 🌱

Phasing in landscaping over time is very common.

We often work with property owners who dream of having a ‘finished’ yard, but maybe they have just spent all their money building their home (very common), or they want to tackle one area at a time for other reasons. Whatever the motivation - working in phases is doable and sometimes even favourable.

Like this beautiful oceanfront property in Departure Bay. We started early 2025 with a Landscape Design for the entire property in collaboration with . From there we broke the project down into phases. Every few months we return and complete another section. This allows us to return to the previously completed areas to monitor invasives, check plant health and keep a pulse on how things are establishing.

Last week we finished the woodland understory project. Previously bare soil, with invasive daphne coming in aggressively from neighbouring properties, this area now has diversity, more resilience against invasives, and forage opportunity for the family living here as the plants grow 🌱

The 2025 Alder Christmas Party 💫

That’s a wrap on our season! This weekend we washed off the mud and set aside our work boots for a super fun evening at .ca to celebrate an incredible year. We were joined by our friends at who have helped us complete a record number of design/installs this season.

This work brings together the most down to earth, kindhearted folks. We truly love what we do and the people we get to share this work with.

Cheers to this crew and the season of rest ahead!

We’re still going over here in an unusually mild December. But next week is final week of our 2025 season 🌱

Our team is looking forward to a chance to deeply rest our bodies and minds. The benefits of this seasonal ebb and flow becomes more and more appreciated over the years. It’s a gift to be able to step outside of the grind!

As we start to look back, 2025 has been our best year yet in so many ways - more native plants in the ground than ever, new and inspiring community connections, a more efficient flow internally - we’re hitting a stride that is so exciting! We can’t wait to share our 2025 Impact Summary later this winter☺️

If you’re interested in working with us in 2026 for a design, installation or stewardship project, please reach out asap to get on our list for next year.

We’ve been patiently waiting to share the opportunity we had this summer to play a tiny part in the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Nations Bighouse Construction.

Our team travelled to Port Hardy to plant the trees that will grow to surround this breathtaking building, including 37 conifers (Sitka Spruce, Grand Fir, Western Red Cedar, and Western Hemlock). A big thank you to for helping us track down the beautiful specimens.

It was an honour to see this sacred building in person. These nations lost access to their bighouse in the 1960’s and this project has been long awaited by the community 🌱
