If you’re hanging decorative lights, make sure they have a mark of approval from a Canadian certification agency. This certification should be located both on the outside of the package, and stamped somewhere on the light cord itself. Less expensive lights, which are sometimes found at discount and dollar stores are often missing this certification, meaning they are not permitted for use in Canada.

It’s been awhile since I have posted anything.
This was a panel change due to a failed neutral connection (which may have been prevented)
With an inspection of the panel.
When we are in a customer’s panel we check all the connections to make sure that they are tight.
In this instance it would have saved the customer a $1500.00 bill

Another quality job by JLO Electrical. When the service was upgraded a few years ago. They installed the new service and refeed the old panel. Today we moved all the circuits from the old panel to the newer panel and removed the old panel.

New home wiring considerations and the abilities to adapt to new technologies and climate change.

Car charger
More and more people are planning on getting an electric vehicle in the future. If you install the cable and box now it will make it a lot easier to install your breaker and charge point for your vehicle in the future.

Solar panels
Install an armour cable to the attic of your house. If the cable is there you can add solar power to your house without having to run the cables on the outside of the house.

Heat pump
Adding a heat pump to your house does improve heating and cooling of your home. If you don’t install one during the build stage make sure that the disconnect and wire is install one for the future are put in.

Backup power
Install a separate generator transfer panel with the essential circuits that you want to be powered if the power goes out.
If they are already in a separate panel you can add a battery backup or a generator in the future.

Hot tub
A lot of people get Hot tubs. They are nice to have and you may want one.

Outside Shed/shop
Add a cable and junction box to the side of the house for then when you build a shed or a detached garage. Also by having detached shop or shed instead if attaching it to the home, the breakers are less problematic and cheaper.

Rental suite/ mortgage helper /In-law suite
If you are building one you may want to split out all the circuits for the suite into a separate panel.
Also have a separate meter for the suite or make sure you have the ability to add a second meter. (Making sure the cable to the suite panel has enough capacity for the suite)

Smoke Detectors
Ability to inter connect smoke detectors with Rental suite/ mortgage helper /In-law suite
During install wiring the smoke detectors for then they can be modified and interconnected simply for the suite rules.

For Future mobility needs
Consider adding an outlet at the bottom of the stairs for a future stair lift if you have stairs.

Electrical Panel
Consider a whole home surge protector.
Try to install the electrical panel in a location that is convenient for
access.
When an electrical panel is to be installed on an outside wall, try to
put the v***r barrier behind the panel.
You may also want to put in a sub panel if the wire lengths get a
little long in the house for then the wire lengths to the panel

Extra circuits
Consider adding a few extra circuits to your crawl space and attic for the future to add new lights or plugs or the small extras you would like to add in the future. Ie heated towel rack.

Media Panel
A media panel with an electrical outlet can simplify your TV, home network and telephone connections.
Consider wiring your home with network cable for hard wire network connections, adding ip cameras, network access points, etc

Good morning and belated Christmas greetings from JLO Electrical Services.
We are taking a well deserved break between Christmas and New Years, we are closed till January 3 2022.
This past year has had it’s challenge’s supply chain issues and costs that just keep changing ,not to mention the on going challenge of trying to keep our clients and staff safe with the raise in COVID numbers.
Thru it all it has been a good year lots of interesting projects!
Just a few things to check in your home’s electrical system
If somethings smells strange or is more than warm to touch get it checked!
If you are using extension cords make sure that cord is in good shape,no cuts or damaged cord ends.
The same goes the Christmas lights do not connect more light strings than the instructions state.
And last but the most important make sure that your smoke detectors have new batteries and the the smoke detector isn’t in service passed its expiration date(which should be on the side or back of the smoke detector)
The very old ones didn’t have an expiration date so that’s the giveaway that they need to be changed asap!

Another project for Aztec Off Grid Solutions finished.
Project worked out as planned except we hadn’t planned on the heat , it did slow down the install but still done in about 8 hrs.
This is 4.7 kw grid intertie system, this should help offset the owners EV charging.
This project’s success was a direct result of my employee’s dedication and hard work this was a team effort!
