This morning Girls Kick Grass took some time to put together a bunch of kennels (originally destined for the SPCA PV) to send to the interior for CDART. We want to thank all the volunteers and anyone, paid or otherwise, working so hard to put out the fires in BC! Also a huge thank you to SPCA PV for the very generous donation!

This is one I made, in a pot, last summer with my daughter. It was so fun! And, we made one at grandma's too (she has a big rock garden so it was perfect). You can find lots of ideas on Pinterest.

Did you know lavender is part of the mint family!?! Some interesting facts:

They bloom from June to August.
The blossoms are well liked by bees and are a great source of honey.
They thrive in full sun.

Lavender is known to lift the spirits and ease anxiety.
It has been used for centuries protecting us from the usual headaches to the plague.
Lavender essential oil was even used in hospitals during WW1!

Try it this summer...it can be hung around the house to ward of flies and mosquitos!
There are many different types of lavender.
Find out which are best planted in a garden or in a pot. My experience has been that it thrives best outside. You can also buy good quality lavender essential oil. Use it on cuts, scrapes, great in the bath to calm nerves.

Summer sunburn life saver!
One of my faves to have around.

About Aloe Vera Plants

Loves the sun but best kept indoors.
The root of the aloe Vera grows as the plant grows, so when re-potting, make sure to use a wide pot as opposed to a tall pot.
Make sure the pot has good drainage (buy ones with a hole in the bottom that drains in a tray).
They love water in the summer months but make sure to allow the soil to dry between waterings, usually 1.5-2 weeks.
Aloes grow most April - September - it can be fertilized during this time but is not necessary.

Aloe Vera is amazing for healing sunburns, cuts, scrapes and rashes (even razor burn - ouch)!
