i wish we could save the area, but by my world wide experience in tree preservation, and with old growth and protected area, capitalism always win, and the logging of the area gonna proceed like it or not, i climbed and visited a lot of old growths, especially on Vancouver island, but having one locally so easily accessible is a real treat ( we have some north of Kaslo, but def a longer access ), so while we can't save it ( they would leave 1 acre around lt dan uncut, but being a tree that size , in that location and with a co dominant lead, opening a breach around going to surely make it way more susceptible to fail because of a storm in the near future ). So in the meantime, just go for a quick walk or to show your kids what a real undisturbed forest look like, or even go enjoy yourself the serenity. parking is 5 min from Castlegar and while steep, only one hour one way up, so it's the perfect quick fall hike for the family. go visit https://savecaicreek.com/ for more info or sign petition. have a treemendous week

to follow up the DRT jumar ascent on the white ash published earlier, here s an SRT ascent ( using only one side of the rope ) on a majestic 40m/120 ft European beech ( Fagus sylvatica) , a much more efficient and safer way to ascent trees, as you can switch from up to down in matter of seconds , SRT gear have really taken off last decade, ( there s maybe too much gear now) , and you can work on your way up, here I am using a Taz lov, a modified device used by sailor to go up and down sails made usable for trees ( it was m first time using it, so I stopped half way for adjustment ) and a homemade knee ascender ( technic used in caving for decades)....
i have a full video of the prune i made , but it s pretty long so i need to edit it first.

that's why professional assesment can keep you out of trouble. Throw back sunday ..fun day,one spruce on the property failed the day before; not hitting anything, then customer noticed the crack, matter of short time before that 100 ft spruce was landing on the house, safe options, clear the house and come clean up once tree is on the "ground", customer was not happy with that, so option 2 was on with no alternate anchor, climbed the tree and remove all the branches and top on a limited drop zone before wind push it over...considering i put my life on the line for free on my own free time, doing it for 500 $ seem reasonable...

one more reason to have your trees inspected professionally once in a while. throw back Sunday ....fun day....one spruce failed already the day before , and customer notice that cracked spruce beside his house and freaked out....as wind was pushing that 100 ft spruce toward the house, with no viable separate anchor in another tree, climbing the tree and reaching the top faster than the wind would push it over was the only options, or I could have have waited watched the tree failed and come clean up after and not risking my life for 500 buck....but what is life without a challenge.

most frenquetly asked question on site by customers are, " where are your ladder ? " "or " where is your bucket truck ? " how you gonna get up there ? here s an example on how an arborist move in or access the canopy of your trees ( that jumar is the old school way, i have video with less intense way to get up i will post ) , ( tree in the videos is an heritage white ash ( fraxinus excelsior ) in brussels . i can only post video once a the time, so i gonna post 2 others post with the 2 remaining.
