We’re currently seeing very challenging gravel road conditions across the Central Kootenays due to heavily saturated road surfaces. Excess moisture from recent snow and rainfall has led to potholes, rutting, and soft sections, making travel more difficult in some areas.

Gravel Road Conditions Update – Central Kootenay Region

At this time, grading operations are limited. Grading saturated roads can actually cause further damage and make conditions less passable, so crews are holding off until conditions improve.

🌧️ What’s causing the delay?
• Prolonged snow and rain have kept road surfaces too soft
• Heavy equipment on saturated roads can worsen rutting and breakdown

🛠️ What’s next?
Grading and maintenance will resume as soon as weather and road conditions allow for effective and safe work.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we wait for conditions to improve and work to restore road quality.

⚠️ Please drive with caution and adjust to conditions.
