Built With Heart: The Story Behind Dykstra Masonry
For more than two decades, lead mason Rob Dykstra has quietly built a reputation across the Niagara Region for masonry that stands the test of time.
From churches and schools to custom homes and private residences, Rob’s work can be found woven into the fabric of the Niagara community, solid, enduring, and thoughtfully executed. Each project carries his signature approach: precision, pride, and a deep respect for the masonry trade.
During the pandemic, Rob made the decision to step out on his own and establish Dykstra Masonry. It was something he had always wanted to do, to gain greater control over scheduling, to build a business rooted in his own values, and to help his son begin a masonry apprenticeship under his guidance.
As one of the more seasoned masons in the Niagara Region, Rob is a strong advocate for the skilled trades and for mentoring the next generation. He believes every role on a job site matters and that learning the trade properly from the ground up is essential to maintaining high standards in the industry.
Since launching Dykstra Masonry, the company has continued to work with some of Niagara’s top home builders, while also completing private projects for many homeowners. Whether it’s a new build, restoration, or repair, the focus remains the same: quality workmanship and creating something meaningful for each client.
“I approach every project as if it were my own,” says Rob. “Quality and safety always come before quantity. Doing it right matters.”
Dykstra Masonry intentionally takes on select projects, carefully scheduling work to ensure each build receives the time and attention it deserves. Rob is drawn to projects that require problem-solving and creativity, but he’s equally committed to doing whatever the job requires, no shortcuts or compromises.
As a smaller, family-run business, Dykstra Masonry is hands-on by design. Rob works with his two sons and a trusted subcontractor, while his wife manages the office and client communication. This close-knit structure allows the team to focus on smaller builds, custom homes, and homeowner projects with care and consistency.
“We genuinely love what we do,” Rob says. “Every build matters to us. It’s always about the work first, not the numbers. We enjoy getting to know the people we work for and helping them achieve what they want.”
Integrity is at the heart of how Dykstra Masonry operates. The team is committed to professionalism, transparency, and fairness, doing business the right way. Building or renovating can feel overwhelming, especially for homeowners new to the process, and part of Dykstra Masonry’s role is to guide clients through that with honesty.
The company works on everything from modern new builds to repairs and restoration projects on very old buildings. They offer free, in-person consultations and quotes, a deliberately old-school approach, and they also provide optional AI visualizations to help clients better picture a finished result when plans feel hard to imagine.
Dykstra Masonry stands behind its work because it speaks for itself. This is masonry built with heart, for real people and real homes.
“I grew up in Niagara, and we like to work in Niagara,” says Rob. “We believe in keeping it local, supporting our community, and working with local suppliers whenever possible.”
Now into his fourth year running Dykstra Masonry, Rob says owning his own business has only strengthened his passion for the craft. Each new project brings a fresh challenge and an opportunity to build something special and lasting.
And that, at its core, is what Dykstra Masonry is about: doing honest work, caring deeply about the result and the people, and building with integrity — one project at a time.
