The Mechanical Contractors Association of Saskatchewan spent this week in Ottawa on Parliament Hill for our annual Advocacy Day alongside fellow provincial MCAs and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada, connecting with Members of Parliament and their teams to explore the policy tools needed to drive productivity and innovation across Canada’s mechanical contracting industry.

Discussions ranged from tax policy to the mutual recognition of industry certifications—key issues that will help ensure mechanical contractors can continue delivering the infrastructure, housing, and essential projects Canada relies on.

Collaboration between industry and government is essential to developing meaningful solutions so that we can build Canada together.

Carbon monoxide (CO) can be very dangerous. You can't see it, smell it or taste it. Symptoms of CO exposure could include a minor to severe headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, vision/hearing impairment, fainting, drowsiness, unconsciousness or even death.

If you suspect CO exposure (or your CO detector alarm alerts to a problem), stay calm and get everyone (including pets) outside as soon as possible. Call 911 or your local fire department, fuel supplier, a licensed heating contractor or your gas company for an inspection. Do not go back in until given the all-clear.

The best ways to prevent CO exposure in your home is to:
* regularly inspect vents/chimneys for foreign material, ice/snow build-up or damage
* perform regular maintenance of your furnace/boiler
* never run a vehicle/generator/BBQ inside a camper/home/attached garage
* install a CO alarm and test it regularly
* avoid smoking indoors
