Selecting the right softwood grade is a key part of ensuring a project performs as intended.

Select Structural is suited for load-bearing applications where strength and consistency are required.

Appearance Select is used where visual quality matters, offering a cleaner finish with fewer knots and defects.

C & Better Clear is typically specified for high-end millwork and finishing, where a near knot-free appearance is preferred.

Each grade is designed with a specific use in mind. Aligning the material to the application upfront helps support smoother ex*****on and more consistent results on site.

The best lumber traders don’t just quote loads.
They help customers make better buying decisions.

That’s the difference between a transaction and a partnership.

At Olympic Industries, trading is built on more than availability and pricing. It’s understanding what a customer needs, knowing where the market is moving, communicating clearly, and helping keep orders aligned from spec to delivery.

Because when you’re buying lumber, the right partner should bring more to the table than a number.

They should bring context.

They should bring options.

They should bring confidence.

That’s how our team approaches the work.

Not just as lumber traders.

As partners.

Hot dogs, burgers, sunshine, and a relay race in the park, yes please!

We split into four teams and spent the afternoon competing through a series of events that got progressively more interesting as the day went on. Lunges, broad jumps, crab walks, single-leg hops, leap frog races, wheelbarrow races, and a final plank competition to decide it all.

Every event counted toward points, with prizes on the line for the winning teams.

The afternoon was part of our participation in the Workout to Conquer Cancer challenge in support of the BC Cancer Foundation, helping get the team moving together for a great cause.

Safe to say, the competition level was higher than expected.

What does it really take to build a career in trading?

For Marilyn, it has meant showing up every day ready to learn, work hard, build relationships, and keep growing. Her journey is a great example of what a career at Olympic can look like when consistency, resilience, and commitment come together over time.

From navigating the fast pace of trading to building strong partnerships with customers and mills, Marilyn’s story gives a real look at the role and the growth that comes with it.

Last month, our team took part in the Workout to Conquer Cancer challenge in support of the BC Cancer Foundation and completed a total of 56 weeks of exercise across our team!

The challenge was to commit to 30 minutes of movement every day throughout the month, with funds raised helping support breakthrough research, treatment, and care for families facing cancer.

As part of the month, the team got outside together in sunny North Vancouver for a relay race and BBQ in the park. A mix of competition, teamwork, and a good excuse to get moving outside the office.

A great month for the team, and proud to have raised $1400 in support of an important cause.

Definitely one of the highlights from the challenge this month.

Our Operations team recently spent time volunteering with Backpack Buddies, helping pack bags in support of children facing food insecurity across British Columbia.

Backpack Buddies works to ensure kids have access to meals over weekends and school breaks. Times when school food programs may not be available. Every backpack packed helps provide consistent support for students and families who need it most.

FPAC’s new Economic Impact Dashboard offers a helpful look at the scale of Canada’s forest products sector.

From jobs supported and GDP contribution to exports and lumber production, the dashboard brings together data that shows how deeply connected this industry is to communities, supply chains, and the broader Canadian economy.

For those working in forest products every day, it’s a reminder that the work happening across mills, transportation networks, trading desks, lumber yards, and customer relationships all contributes to something much larger.

A strong industry is built through many moving parts, and it’s encouraging to see that impact represented in a clear, accessible way.

We’re excited to welcome Jake, Jack, Jonathon, and Solomon to the team this summer.

Jake joins us as a new graduate Trader Trainee, while Jack, Jonathon, and Solomon are spending the summer with us before heading back to school in September.

Over the coming months, they’ll be learning the industry, working alongside teams across the office, and getting exposure to different parts of the business.

Looking forward to having them on the floor this summer.

Darcy and Kirsten recently attended the Commercial Real Estate Awards of Excellence (CREA) in support of AURA, whose work on our office was nominated for Best Tenant Improvement Over 10,000 SF.

AURA did an incredible job designing a space that reflects how our team works day-to-day — collaborative, connected, and built for growth. Great to see the project recognized alongside other outstanding work across the industry.
