This spring marked the successful completion of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band’s award-winning Ashnola Watershed Restoration Project. Following the 2023 wildfire, restoration efforts began immediately with support from Tree Canada, resulting in the planting of 846,000 trees across the watershed.
We are honoured to be an ally in restoration, supporting this important work and helping to lay the foundation for diverse, resilient forest ecosystems that will grow, and support future generations.

Survival surveys are a critical component of any reforestation program. They involve returning to planted sites at regular intervals over several years to assess seedling survival, health, and growth. These surveys provide valuable data on the success of the planting program, help identify factors affecting tree establishment, and determine whether additional treatments or replanting may be required to meet long-term forest management objectives.

The seedlings pictured here—western larch, Douglas-fir, western white pine, western redcedar, and Engelmann spruce—were planted in April 2025 as part of the North Shuswap wildfire recovery effort. Just over a year later, they are thriving and demonstrating strong establishment, an encouraging sign for the long-term recovery of these fire-affected landscapes. These species were carefully selected to help restore a diverse, resilient, and climate-adapted forest following wildfire disturbance.

Proud to support as a Project Development Partner in their incredible National Greening Program.
We’re honoured to contribute to meaningful restoration initiatives like the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw Wildfire Reforestation Project — important efforts focused on long-term ecosystem recovery, resilience, and community impact.
Grateful to work alongside strong partners helping restore landscapes affected by wildfire across British Columbia.

This project is a strong example of what meaningful collaboration can achieve when Nations, non-profits, forestry professionals, contractors, and local crews come together with a shared vision for restoration. From the initial planning stages and sowing seedlings with nursery partners, to planting boots on the ground, every stage of this work contributes toward rebuilding forests and supporting the long-term health of the land, watersheds, wildlife habitat, and community for future generations.
We are incredibly proud to have played a role in this important wildfire recovery effort and look forward to continuing this work together in the years ahead.

Successful restoration truly requires a collaborative approach, and this spring we saw that collaboration in action while reforesting the Skwlāx te Secwépemcúl̓ecw Quaaout Indian Reserve (IR 1) lands impacted by the 2023 Bush Creek East wildfire.
A total of 1.1 million seedlings were planted across the Quaaout IR lands using a diverse mix of Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine, western larch, western redcedar, and Engelmann spruce to support long-term forest recovery, watershed resilience, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, and future climate adaptation across the landscape. The primary objective of this project was to accelerate the recovery of heavily fire-affected forests while helping restore ecological function, reduce long-term erosion risk, support future forest cover, and create a healthier and more resilient landscape for future generations. The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without the key collaboration and contributions from Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw (Little Shuswap Lake Band), Tree Canada and their National Greening Program. Cariboo Carbon Solutions also contributed through their 2 Billion Trees funding, which was matched by Skwlax Timber Corporation. In true collaborative fashion, the project brought together multiple organizations and crews working toward a common goal of wildfire recovery and long-term stewardship of the land:

🌲Tree Canada — key funding partner.
🌲Skwlāx te Secwépemcúl̓ecw Territorial Resource Stewardship, Guardians Program, and Skwlax Timber Limited Partnership.
🌲Beavertooth Resources Limited— danger tree assessment and mitigation services.
🌲Saskan Consulting Limited — quality assessment and training.
🌲Cariboo Carbon Solutions — project development and management.
🌲Zanzibar Holdings Ltd. — implementation of the reforestation activities. We are incredibly proud to have played a role in this important wildfire recovery effort and look forward to continuing this work together in the years ahead.
