This National Indigenous Peoples Day, we invite you to ʔəxʔixəltəl̓ (paddle together) with our səlilwətaɬ community by supporting Tsleil-Waututh Member-led aspirations through the TWN Community Society.

In the past year alone, 129 Member-led, grassroots projects were supported, each one reflecting the strength, vision, and leadership within our community. From language revitalization and weaving projects to youth athletics and land-based wellness, these initiatives are creating lasting impact, rooted in identity, resilience, and belonging.

səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) and the Province of BC have co-developed and co-signed an updated marine water quality policy, called xaɬəmət ct tə səlilwət / Water Quality Objectives for səlilwət (Burrard Inlet). xaɬəmət ct tə səlilwət means “protect Burrard Inlet” in the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language. This was a first-of-its-kind government-to-government initiative that weaves together western science and Traditional Indigenous Values and Knowledge. This is a major win towards a cleaner inlet!

The heart of our community is centred around səlilwət (Burrard Inlet), between Maplewood Flats and Deep Cove in North Vancouver, but traditional use studies and archaeological evidence show our Ancestors occupied a vast area, about 1,865 square kilometres (190,000 hectares). Our traditional territory encompasses wilderness watersheds northwards to Mount Garibaldi, Coquitlam Lake in the east, and Howe Sound to the west.
