Some progress shots from Our St.John’s church project in Oakville.

Photo 1: The current state of the repointing very faded but still intact considering the age of this church.

Photo 2: Preparing the joints appropriately. Standard for repointing are what ever the mortar joint is you removed twice that as the depth minimum. This allows for new material to hold onto the older material left over.

Photo 3: A red stopping mortar is applied with a channel cut in each joint. Lime putty is then applied to reinvigorate the arch bringing it back to its former self.

We are proud to be a route sponsor for this year’s coldest night of the year, in support of

The unfortunate reality is many people are experiencing food insecurity. This can be due to a number of reasons. Food for life is an incredible organization that rescues fresh, nutritious food and redistributes it to neighbours in need across Halton and Hamilton. For every $10 donated, Food for Life can rescue over $71 worth of food.

We are grateful to play a small part and look forward to walking on February 28th in support of those experiencing food insecurity in our community.

Send me a dm if you’d like to make a donation to one of my kids’ fundraising pages.

Story time: Earlier this year we had the opportunity to work on a private heritage residence in brampton.

The client had a few contractors over the years perform various tasks around the property. Unfortunately a date stone was disposed of during some of the work being completed.

We felt this to be a lack of care taken by another contractor and took it upon ourself to right this wrong.

It also gave me the opportunity to reconnect with a mentor of mine Richard Bessel stone cutting and restoration.

With a bit of guidance we were able to practice a bit of lettering(our first attempt) and deliver a new memorial stone to our client.

They were very happy to receive such a sentimental gift before the holidays.

And if you’ve made it this far thanks for reading.

Our finished product.

We are very grateful to be able to help clients especially when they have been duped by want to be masons.

The fact that spray paint was used for marking, demolition was an undermining concern and a mess was left in around the surrounding area. This speaks volume to the previous contractors lack of professionalism. I can only imagine what the brick work would have looked like.

Masonry is a life long journey not a handyman past time. So please vet your masonry contractors and make sure their quotes are detailed in their scope.

Thanks for watching

Success!

The method when using chemicals to clean brick:

Step 1: Apply on a small test area or unit. Sometimes with dilution. Follow directions exactly.

Step 2: After product directions have been followed exactly. If desired result occur apply to larger areas.

Masonry cleaning is no joke units can etch fade even deteriorate so be sure your mason is familiar with the products and methods they are using prior to hiring.

We emphasize exactly because that is the way these products are designed to work anything outside of that will result in poor and un even results.

Story/Rant Part 2

We were lucky enough to have our good friends recommend this spray painter remover. We were really happy with the results.

Now the rant. If you are going around calling yourself a mason and spray painting century homes. You are mot a mason in fact i don’t know what you are a graffiti artist perhaps. Use chalk to mark the areas less invasive and easy to come off.

Story/Rant time…..

Client hired “masonry contractors” who happened to be in the area. Was quoted reasonably. Once the work started the spray paint came out same with the jack hammers. Contractors tried to bait a switch and upsell into extensive underpinning. (20 times the original price.)

Luckily they were asked to stop and we came in prior to extensive damage being done. To be continued…

And thats a wrap…

the clients were supper happy having this flagstone over lay installed at their property. The slate grey really complimented the columns and skirting in the front.

When designing these overlays we try and keep to stone bonding rules for the inlay, and boarder using a 2 inch coping which gives a very natural finished look.

Thanks for watching
