Even the best contractors can make mistakes.

Today’s project was for a highly skilled contractor we’re fortunate to work with and receive several referrals from each year. In this case, the windows and door were measured slightly off, and all three units arrived about 1” too large for the existing openings.

Given the cost of the materials and the 6–8 week lead time for replacements, the client asked if we could carefully enlarge the openings to suit and we were happy to help.

We modified each opening by cutting back the brickwork on one side, then carefully toothing in new brick to achieve the correct dimensions and maintain a clean, seamless finish.

We had the pleasure of working on this beautiful home for some amazing customers!

The chimney base and shoulders were experiencing severe spalling, and the homeowners wanted a better brick match than what had been completed years ago. Unfortunately, the original brick has since been discontinued, making an exact match nearly impossible.

Since the chimney above the roofline was no longer in use after the fireplace was converted to a gas insert and vented through the side of the home, I suggested removing the unused section of chimney and salvaging the existing brick for the repairs. The homeowners loved the idea!

We carefully removed the chimney down to just above the flashing, installed a solid stone cap to permanently seal it, and cleaned all of the salvaged brick. We then removed the damaged, spalling brick from the chimney base and replaced it with the reclaimed brick, creating a much more seamless and attractive finish.

A great solution that not only addressed the deterioration but also provided the closest possible match for a clean, professional look. Another project completed and another happy customer!

We would like to sincerely thank our supporters and the many referrals we continue to receive from our happy customers. This wonderful homeowner made a post on a Courtice page looking for an experienced restoration mason, and after receiving numerous recommendations, they reached out to Whyte’s Masonry.

For this project, we removed the collapsed arch and damaged brickwork above the garage door. We installed two 2” × 8” , securely anchored them into the framing, and then carefully rebuilt the arch and surrounding brickwork.

We are grateful for the trust our clients place in us and for the continued support and referrals from our community.

Once a week, we schedule several smaller projects together because no job is ever too small for our team.

Twenty years ago, when I started Whyte’s Masonry, I made a promise to myself that no matter how busy or successful the company became, I would never turn away small jobs. Those small projects, and the trust customers placed in us, are what helped build this company. That commitment remains the same today.

This week’s Small Job Day included:

🔹 Job #1: Removed a metal window frame that had been cast into the foundation, installed concrete block framing, waterproof brick starter, and toothed in new brick to complete the opening.

🔹 Job #2: Removed two deteriorated brick window sills and replaced them with full-length natural stone sills.

🔹 Job #3: Removed spalling brick beneath an entry door and installed new matching brick.

🔹 Job #4: Removed a deteriorated support column holding up a large porch and roof structure, installed concrete block, applied galvanized metal lath, and finished with two coats of parging.

No matter the size of the project, every customer receives the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

We had the pleasure of completing repairs to the pizza oven stone wall at the Brock House Restaurant in Whitby. While it was a small repair for our team, it was an important one to help preserve the integrity of the structure.

Our work involved removing all loose stones, carefully relaying them, and tuckpointing all cracked mortar to ensure the wall remains strong and secure.

A great project for a fantastic establishment. If you haven’t been there, Brock House Restaurant is well worth a visit, amazing food and an amazing atmosphere!

I would like to sincerely thank Don and Son Building Supplies for their referrals and support over the past 16 years. I started receiving referrals from Don’s 16 years ago, and since then I have had the pleasure of working on many projects for their customers and their staff as well. The continued trust, support, and countless referrals from such a great supplier and amazing staff have played a significant role in helping my company grow.

This project was another referral from Don’s. The homes on this new development were experiencing condensation issues, and the builder had installed 2” Styrofoam insulation on several houses. The builder, who also has a great relationship with Don’s, was looking for someone with extensive knowledge and experience in lath and parging applications and was referred to us.

We installed metal lath over the insulated areas and completed a two-coat parging system to provide a durable, professional finish.

Thank you once again to the entire team at Don and Sons Masonry Supplies for your continued confidence in our work. Your support and referrals over the years are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to many more years of working together.
