🔨 Honest truth, my dad passed down a technique I’ve never seen another roofer use.

Every time you need to access counterflashing, you’re fighting the siding. Most companies skip this step entirely and aren’t able to wrap ice shield, step flashing, or counterflashing properly.

He’s been roofing for 55+ years. He’s replaced many of his clients 3 times over. That’s not just experience, that’s a legacy built on doing things right the first time and thinking decades ahead.

His mentality has always been simple: “How would I do this if it were my own home?” That question changes everything about how you approach the job.

So here’s the trick he passed down:

👉 Install a 4–5” piece of metal with a kick-out, nailed at the top.

It separates the roof from the siding completely. So the next time the roof needs to be done, it’s clean and easy. And the next time the siding needs to be replaced, it won’t touch or damage the roof. Two trades, done right, never fighting each other again.

Hard to compete with roofers who skip the hard parts. 😤

This chimney and wall weren’t flashed in 2018. The homeowner had no idea, it looked fine from the street.

Only recently noticed a crack on their ceiling, wet wood and insulation discovered in the attic.
You can’t just replace shingles and call it a day. A real roof replacement means waterproofing EVERY transition: walls, chimneys, valleys.

Ask your roofer these before you sign anything:
✅ New counterflashing or reused?
✅ New step flashing on the walls?
✅ Ice shield wrapped up the wall?
✅ Does the chimney need a saddle?

A Crystal Beach homeowner had a new roof and an active leak. Previous contractor came out, found nothing, said nothing was wrong.
We found four exposed nail heads driven too low during installation. Caulked them. Patched them. Leak solved.
The roof doesn’t always tell you the story right away. You have to know what to look for.

🏠 “He noticed and fixed things other roofers did not find.”
That’s what a Crystal Beach homeowner said after we repaired her roof leak — a roof that another contractor had already looked at and called clean.
Here’s how it went:
She had a relatively new roof. Water was getting in. The previous roofer checked it out and said everything looked fine. It wasn’t.
When I got there, I started by measuring from the inside to locate exactly where the leak was tracking. Then onto the roof — no obvious damage, no penetrations, nothing glaring.
So I slowed down and looked for the subtle stuff. Found four exposed nail heads — nails driven too low during the original install, leaving entry points for water. Caulked them, patched over them, done.
The fix wasn’t complicated. Finding it was.
If your roof is “supposedly fine” but you’re still getting water, I’d love to take a second look.

Recent repair in Carlington — what looked like a minor leak turned out to be significant shingle and decking damage underneath. Removed the damaged section, replaced the rotted sheathing, new underlayment and shingles installed. Roof is now watertight and solid. Note: perfect colour matching on aged shingles isn’t always possible but the repair is what matters. Red Seal Certified — 613-295-5323
