There are many situations that require a professional arborist, but there may be times when you are interested in maintaining your trees on your own - either to address short term issues like a broken branch, or to increase the time between arborist visits, such as clearing branches from your home or driveway.

Heat stress usually occurs in peak summer: when it’s 32°C for more than a few days. It is often accompanied by drought. Think August 2025.

To see the signs, look at the leaves:

✓ Scorch: they turn brown at the edges as the tree loses water faster than it can replace it
✓ Curl: Leaves curl up or roll inwards to reduce surface area and minimize water loss
✓ Drop: Trees may shed early as a survival mechanism to conserve water.
✓ Droop: Branches and leaves sag during the day.

How to Help:
✓ Water Low + Slow - Ensure adequate water to reduce moisture stress.
✓ Mulch Ring - improve water retention and keep soil cool
✓ Avoid Fertilizer - which stimulates new growth that increases the water demand.
