Built to Last: We taped every single joist with butyl tape so the wood substructure lasts just as long as the premium decking.
Picture-Perfect Edges: No one wants to look at the raw, plastic edges of a composite board. We fully picture-framed the deck and hid all the pressure-treated framing behind gorgeous decorative fascia details.

We recently tackled a serious case of rotten floor joist and sheathing. While it’s not as glamorous as a kitchen makeover or a new deck, structural integrity is the foundation of every safe home. Beat the heat? Easier said than done when you’re working hard on a renovation in this weather!

Outdoor renovation season is officially underway!

We just wrapped up our first deck and porch project of the year, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. This front porch got a complete rebuild using premium Deckorators composite decking.

To complete the look, we paired the composite with a sleek aluminum railing. It’s the perfect match, offering a clean, modern aesthetic that beautifully complements the decking. The best part? From Damp & Dark to Bright & Open!

Ever feel like your basement is just a spooky storage locker? That’s where this Ottawa home started—but not where it ended! The Ottawa Sustainable Renovation team recently wrapped up this total basement transformation, and we couldn’t be prouder of the results.

Here is how we took a largely unusable space and turned it into a beautiful, functional extension of the home:

Stripped to the Bones: We gutted the space right down to the foundation walls to start with a clean slate.

Opened Up the Flow: We removed a wall to give the entire room a much larger, more expansive feel and to allow the natural light to travel much further.

Built to Last (and Stay Dry): We insulated with closed-cell spray foam, creating a rock-solid thermal and v***r barrier to lock out the Ottawa cold and humidity forever.

Smart & Bright Lighting: Re-did the electrical and installed sleek pot lights to maximize headroom, alongside plenty of outlets for ultimate functionality.

The Little Details: No ugly utilities here! We boxed in the water meter with a custom, sleek, flush-mount access panel.

The Finishing Touches: Laid down durable, waterproof Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring and finished the walls with a crisp off-white paint to bounce that beautiful new light around the room.

Elevated Style, Meet All-Season Protection

There’s nothing quite like the warmth of natural wood to transform a house into a home. We recently wrapped up this stunning custom cedar awning, a project several years in the making, and it is a total showstopper!

Our client came to us looking for a specific balance: a design that looked high-end and intentional, but worked hard against the elements. By collaborating closely on the specs, we delivered a solution that offers heavy-duty coverage from:

On this project, we used deck-to-wall spacers to create a precise air gap between the cedar and the masonry wall. This critical detail encourages airflow and rapid drying, preventing moisture trap and rot before they ever start.

Kitchen transformation complete!

We recently wrapped up a full kitchen overhaul, and this one was all about turning a dream into a functional, sustainable reality.

The project included levelling the floor, installing porcelain tiles, new cabinetry, a new sink, updated appliances, and freshly painted walls. One of the biggest changes was reworking the peninsula. By moving it out, we created more useable space and added comfortable counter seating with a brand new quartz countertop, giving the family a beautiful and durable breakfast bar and gathering spot.

Lighting was completely rethought as part of this renovation. The old fluorescent bar and dated pendant are gone, replaced with sleek recessed lighting, dedicated lighting over the sink, and under-cabinet lighting that adds both function and warmth to the space.

We love the details in this kitchen. The tiled backsplash with blue grout ties beautifully into the lower cabinet colour, and the upper cabinets were built all the way to the ceiling. That means significantly more storage and no dust-collecting gap above the cabinets. Small design choice, big everyday win.

We also paid close attention to the finishing touches that often get overlooked. All three entry points into the kitchen now have tile flush with the surrounding hardwood floors, so there are no awkward or unsightly floor transitions.

Most importantly, we worked closely with the client to bring their vision to life and built this kitchen with sustainability in mind. Thoughtful design, careful ex*****on, and attention to the little things that truely make a big difference.
