Stained fireplace prior to installation. Varsthane “total control” gel stain. Ipswich pine. Here I used 180 grit sandpaper before applying to clean the surface and open up the grain of the wood to accept new product. After first coat, I used a 280 grit paper to smooth raised fibers. This product is a brush on and wipe off application
