Huge winter storm is coming.
Mini splits are an outdoor unit that are built to withstand most outdoor conditions.
But this system coming is not a standard condition. It’s going to get bad.
People post and google search this issue and like any subject it has many different answers. Here’s ours.

Let your heat pump run as normal. If it is installed in a location that snow does not accumulate much, Running the unit will keep the outdoor fan in operation, which in turn will keep the snow out from building up inside your outdoor unit.
Defrost operation will occur quite frequently. Could even be every 28 mins of run time.
If your heat pump is installed in a location that or could possibly build major drifts.
Turn off the unit with the remote and then with the breaker as snow can build up in these weather tight disconnects and if possible cover it with a tarp and strap the tarp down.
If the unit is just turned off without it covered up snow will build up inside the unit through the fan guard and could possible do damage when restarted.

Once we all dig out. Do the same with your heat pump. Remove tarp. Turn the breaker back on, give it a few mins and fire the system back up.
