This is the Basset house, it was originally purchased in 1906 as a "ready made" or "kit" from Eaton's catalog for the sum of $440.00 by Richard Basset.
It was brought here from Winnipeg by train, paddle-wheeler, and horse team.
The house was moved to this location in 1984, where it was re-constructed and minor renovations were made to maintain up-keep.
In 2023 we were contacted by the Okanagan Falls Heritage & Museum Society to replace the Cedar Shake Roof.
We were honored to be offered this opportunity to work on a piece of our local history, and we worked with the Society's budget to make this happen, donating a portion of labor and materials to the cause.
We removed the Cedar Shakes and installed plywood to the roof to provide a new and acceptable roof deck for new Shingles to be Installed.
We then Installed CertainTeed roofing underlayment and CertainTeed shingles, matched with the high profile capping to maintain the original look and show off the structure's simple yet attractive architecture.
The Basset house is the oldest known house we have done a project on, at 117 years old!
