Bookkeeper (Full Cycle) Required

At Eckert Electric, we’ve been powering homes, businesses, and community landmarks across the South & Central Okanagan for more than six decades. Now we’re looking for an experienced, people first Bookkeeper to join our tight knit office team and make sure the numbers behind every project add up.

Since 1964, Eckert Electric has grown from a small local contractor into a full service electrical company known for 24/7 responsiveness, safety leadership, and quality workmanship on residential, commercial, and industrial projects. With ~ 35–45 employees, two service hubs (Penticton & Kelowna), and a fleet of fully equipped vehicles, we bring deep technical expertise and small company care to every job.
About You
You thrive in a collaborative, “all hands” office where owners, project managers, and administrators lean on each other to get the work done. You balance precision with pragmatism, love building efficient systems, and enjoy the variety that comes from serving both colleagues and customers. You are:
• A full cycle bookkeeping professional who can move confidently from bank recs to payroll.
• Comfortable juggling deadlines, regulations, and ad hoc questions from the field.
• Curious, resourceful, and committed to continuous improvement - both yours and ours.
Your Responsibilities
Core Finance
• Prepare project to actual reports for progress billings.
• Support the progress and T&M invoicing processes.
• Manage A/R and A/P, including subcontractor payables and adjustments to inventory.
• Prepare reports for PMs and owners to keep them up to date on project cost, revenue, and payment status.
• Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
• Process GST/PST, WCB, CRA, EHT remittances.
• Process benefits payments and allocations.
• Assist external accountant with year end.
Payroll & HR
• Run bi weekly and semi-monthly payroll for ~40 staff.
• Set up new hires, register apprentices with the ITA, and submit hours.
• File ROEs and T4s; complete termination documents.
Office & Customer Support
• Rotate through reception (phones, visitors, mail).
• Prepare bank deposits online.
• Pitch in on general admin projects to keep the office humming.
Required Skills
• Five + years full cycle bookkeeping in a small to mid sized business (construction or trades an asset).
• Proficiency in Sage 50, Accubid T&M, and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a willingness to learn new platforms.
• Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll compliance (CRA, WCB, BC ESA).
• Proven ability to safeguard confidential information and meet tight filing deadlines.
• Clear, friendly communication: written, phone, and face to face.
Bonus Points
• Experience supporting a field based workforce (e.g., electricians, technicians).
• Comfort using cloud collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
