After the severe weather Manitoba has seen over the last few days, we’re thinking of everyone dealing with power outages, flooding, property damage and cleanup.
With more rain in the forecast, please take a few extra precautions to keep yourself, your family, your pets and your neighbours safe:
🌧️ Avoid flooded roads, ditches, yards and basements - whenever possible. Floodwater can hide washouts, debris, contamination and electrical hazards.
⚡ Stay well away from downed or damaged power lines and anything they may be touching, including trees, fences, vehicles and water. If you see one: call 911.
🔦 Use flashlights instead of candles during outages whenever you can.
🏠 Keep generators, BBQs, camp stoves and fuel-burning equipment outside and away from doors, windows and vents. Carbon monoxide is invisible, odourless and extremely dangerous.
📱 Keep phones charged when possible, conserve battery life and follow updates from your local municipality: Manitoba Hydro and Environment Canada.
🚗 Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, poor visibility or flooded conditions. If a road is covered in water, turn around.
🤝 Check in on neighbours, seniors, people living alone, and anyone who may rely on powered medical equipment.
Storm cleanup can feel urgent, but safety comes first. Take your time, watch for hazards, and look out for each other. Manitoba weather can be a beast, but community is tougher. 💛
