Well, that’s a wrap on another season for The Sod Squad.

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who hired us, recommended us, shared our posts, waved us down on job sites, or trusted us with their properties this year. We’ve met a ton of great people and taken on some pretty wild projects along the way.

We’re wrapping things up a little earlier this year because our family is making a big move to Chilliwack at the end of the month. We’re also expecting our second child, so life is about to get a whole lot busier in the best possible way.

The Sod Squad isn’t disappearing from Quesnel, though. We’ll still be offering services next season, just on a more limited basis. Our main focus will be hydroseeding, with some select landscaping work as well.

One big change is we’re officially hanging up the fencing tools. After a couple years of digging holes through roots, rocks, clay, old concrete and whatever else Quesnel could hide underground, I think we’ve earned our retirement from that department 😂

So if you’re thinking about a new lawn, lawn restoration, hydroseeding or some landscaping next spring, feel free to reach out. We’ll still be making trips back and taking on projects when scheduling allows.

Seriously, thank you Quesnel. This little business grew into far more than I expected when I started it, and that only happened because people here gave us a chance.

There’s something deeply satisfying about turning a yard that looks completely cooked into this. A few weeks ago it was dirt, patchy ground and optimism.

Now it’s the kind of lawn that makes a guy stand on the deck with a coffee and admire his own property for absolutely no reason.

Hydroseeding season is still very much active. In fact, this is one of the best windows of the year to get it done.

Fewer weeds, more natural moisture, cooler nights and warm enough daytime temperatures to keep germination moving. We charge just $0.25 per square foot with a $550 minimum.

And the best part is, we can also spray over existing lawns. You don’t need to completely tear your yard apart like the before photos in this post might suggest.

If you’ve ever stood in your yard staring at a giant patch of dirt and wondering how long it’s going to look like a construction zone, this is the good news.

This lawn was hydroseeded just over two weeks ago.

Good soil prep, the right seed blend and steady watering did the heavy lifting, and now the whole property is starting to look completely different.

Hydroseeding season is still going, and late summer is one of my favourite times to get seed established.

Warm soil, cooler days, less evaporation… basically Mother Nature finally decides to stop taxing your lawn.

Four weeks. That’s the difference between freshly sprayed hydroseed and the lawn you see here.

The middle stage is the part people don’t always show. At first, growth came in unevenly, with the sunnier areas filling out faster while the sections beneath the trees stayed noticeably thinner. We kept watching it, the homeowner kept up with the watering, and then the lawn took off.

By week four, the yard had filled in dramatically and was already thick enough for its first mow.

Hydroseeding takes a little patience, but when the site is prepared properly and the watering is consistent, the results can speak pretty loudly for themselves.
