We were proud to sponsor the Ronald McDonald House Charity Golf Tournament again this year in Red Deer. This tournament raised over $115,000 to help families with critical child medical care. Thanks to all the volunteers that made this possible and to the RDGCC for great food and golf course in amazing condition.

💥SCAM ALERT 💥

To protect our valued customers as well as our future customers we are alerting everyone to a scam that is taking place in our industry.
This has been going on for a long time and has gotten to a point where it affects our reputation as well as taking valuable dollars out of our economy. The authorities have pretty much washed their hands as they claim they do not have the resources to police this and point fingers the federal government to do something and they have the same answer.
To be a Locksmith and a Locksmith Business in Alberta we must meet a very rigorous licensing process that involves being a Journeyman or Registered Apprentice Locksmith as well as being fingerprinted, background checked as well as a vulnerable security check. It costs my company $80/ year per employee including the owner as well as $500/yr for the business and must be renewed with fresh paperwork every 2 years. We also have to pay to be background checked and fingerprinted as well as submit a passport photo for our license.
If I do not follow the rules as laid out by the Solicitor Generals office (SSIA) we are subject to fines and loss of license.
The scam companies who come into many cities across the country are offshore entities who are not licensed in anyway and lure illegal workers with the promise of work.
They pick a name very close to top companies and utilize this to attract calls. In this case they use Red Deer Locksmith. When you call they pretend to be Red Deer Lock & Safe. If you ask them if they are us they usually respond with yes “Red Deer Lock”.
They will ask for an upfront payment of $49. This is paid by debit or e transfer. Then 2 guys show up in an old vehicle with no signs and not in uniforms.They can now charge whatever they want and usually do. We hear horror stories of people being charged hundreds of dollars for a service that should only cost $100. They shake people down and usually get paid. They have no experience and do very subpar work.
Then we usually get a call regarding the work they did while pretending to be Red Deer Lock & Safe.
These guys usually only accept cash or debit. They pay no taxes, licensing and have no insurance or WCB. And the Government/Authorities refuse to do anything about it, citing no resources as a reason. They operate underground and use names in Central Alberta like Red Deer Locksmith, 24/7 Locksmith and Max Locksmith. All registered through Europe. This makes them untouchable for any financial recourse.

So beware folks. Ask for licenses and watch for our Red Deer Lock & Safe yellow vans. Our techs wear uniforms clearly marked with our name.
