USW announces with heavy hearts the tragic passing of 36-year old Juver Balmores, two days ago on April 23. Balmores, a dedicated worker at CN Rail and member of USW Local 2004, was involved in a fatal head-on collision near Clearwater, B.C., leaving behind a loving wife and three young children. Another USW member was hospitalized due to injuries, while one occupant in a semi-truck passed away and another sustained injuries.

“Joining CN Rail in 2022, Juver quickly endeared himself to his colleagues with his kindness, dedication and unwavering commitment to his work,” said Cole Kramer, USW Local 2004 president. “His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, within the CN Rail community and beyond.”

The USW extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time, as well as to the families and friends of the other individuals involved in the accident.

Weyburn and District Labour Council President Wanda Bartlett and Vice President Brad Thompson with Mayor Roy getting the proclamation for the Day of Mourning signed at City Council. The National Day of Mourning for workers who died while working or from occupational disease is April 28th. A ceromony to remember those workers will be held April 28th at the TC Douglas center 400 10th Ave SE at 1pm.

Election for the president will take place from 12 to 1 pm on Tuesday April 23, 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday April 23rd, and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday April 24th 6 to 8pm to accommodate all shifts. Voting will raje place in the lunchroom at the plant. The candidates are Brad Thompson and Wally Fraser. Make sure you vote.
