Tile selection is only the beginning.

These Oakridge project photos show the tiling stage: dark shower walls, the window opening and the bathroom floor coming together before the fixtures go in.

Tile size, cuts and transitions deserve attention before installation starts.

The details you use every day deserve attention before construction starts.

This Kensington Crescent shower combines a folding seat, hand shower, grab bar and recessed niche with tiled walls and a mosaic floor.

A family bathroom can be practical without being plain.

This completed Regina project pairs a bright tiled bath with blue beadboard, bee-pattern wallpaper and black hexagonal flooring. The finishes give the room personality while keeping the everyday layout straightforward.

What one finish would give your bathroom more character?

A deep jetted tub made way for a tiled shower with sliding glass, a fixed showerhead and a hand shower.

This Almond Grove conversion also included plumbing coordination and repairs to the surrounding room—details that belong in the plan from the beginning.

This is what a cover-up can hide.

This homeowner knew there might be water damage near the bottom of their tiled tub surround. Once we opened it up, we found extensive mould and water damage behind the tile.

It was bad enough that the entire wall had to be removed and reframed.

A new surface wouldn’t have repaired that wall. The damage had to be dealt with first.

These photos show the full project—from the original surround and what was hiding behind it, through the new framing, to the finished bathroom.

Find the problem. Repair the damage. Then rebuild.

The layout stayed galley. The room changed completely.

Full-height cabinetry, an apron-front sink and a carefully chosen finish mix gave this compact character-home kitchen more storage and a stronger sense of home.

A bathroom vanity should do more than hold a sink.

Before selecting one, think about:

• Drawers versus open cabinet storage.
• How much countertop space you actually need.
• Mirror and lighting placement above it.

A vanity that looks great but can’t hold your everyday bathroom items gets frustrating quickly.

The best bathroom renovations balance the finished appearance with how the room functions every morning.

Would you choose more drawer storage or a larger countertop?

Keep the tub or switch to a shower?

Start with who uses the bathroom and what would make daily life easier—bathing kids, enjoying a soak or having easier shower access.
