When designing your own house, you must create a home that inspires your life. A house should be an inspiration to oneself. It should be fitting and appropriate for the family. It should be such that wherever you may go, you should always feel that it is never like coming home again – a place to find happiness in. to be totally at peace – in the one place that you built with love and dreams.

OUTDOOR SHOWERS, & OTHER DETAILING
Whether you intend to build your own DIY outdoor shower or plan to install a ready-made freestanding or wall-mounted model, an outdoor shower can be simple and minimal or elaborate and custom-built using materials such as wood, brick, tile, stone, stucco, concrete, and more. Adding an outdoor shower to your home will not only save your walls and floors, but it may also save you a lot of time, too. Because the less time you spend making sure the kids don't flood the bathroom floor, the more time you have to do other things. Installing your outdoor shower on a wall adjoining a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room is your best bet. This is because these rooms already have hot and cold pipes. Most people choose stone tile for shower flooring because it has many advantages. It is water-resistant, textured, and it won't make your floor slippery. Furthermore, the stone is pleasant after being warmed by the sun.

ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING
Engineered hardwood, while stylish and versatile, has its drawbacks. Its structure makes refinishing tricky due to the thin veneer layer on top. Exposure to sunlight can cause fading over time, and it's not fully waterproof - excess water may lead to damage such as warping or buckling of your floors. Engineered wood flooring is a better choice in high-moisture environments than solid hardwood, making it a better option for kitchens, bathrooms and basements. But, for whole-house installations, both flooring options offer a wide range of style choices. While engineered hardwood may provide a more natural look and feel, vinyl planks offer superior durability, moisture resistance, and lower cost. Choosing between these two types of flooring ultimately depends on your personal preferences, budget, and lifestyle needs. You should always install engineered wood over an underlayment. Moisture barriers and underlayment prevent moisture build-up under your floors, keep your floors warm, reduce noise, and even out subfloor imperfections. This extra support under your floors will lengthen the lifespan of your engineered wood planks.

XERISCAPE LANDSCAPING
While Fall is the perfect time of year to aerate and fertilize your lawn, it's also an ideal time to start a xeriscape garden or lawn. The best for xeriscaping is silt. Sand does not retain water very well and clay can retain water for too long to the detriment of your plants. Compost soil is a good choice as well. Mulch helps retain water and keep the plants' roots cool. The purpose of xeriscaping is primarily to conserve water and once plants are established, they may require little or no maintenance. To minimize turf watering and fertilizing, leave turf grasses a minimum of 3 inches in height and leave the clippings to help conserve moisture and provide nutrients back to the soil.

WINDOWS
Fiberglass windows are more expensive than other similarly equipped window units, but their selling points are many: They're extremely energy efficient thanks to their low thermal conductivity; they're the strongest and most durable windows on the market. Milgard Windows and Doors (the C650 Ultra™ Series) is a good choice for cheap windows. If you are planning a project with large windows in mind, fiberglass is extremely strong and can hold expansive pieces of glass. Double- and triple-glazed windows use a spacer system to prevent condensation from forming between the panes. These windows provide better insulation.

INTERIORS
Which interior design style is timeless? Generally, mid-century modern is considered timeless, but especially understated traditional style spaces in a mostly neutral color palette. These are viewed as classic designs because they adapt well to evolving trends. Creating a timeless home comes down to the balance between filling the space and leaving areas open. It's also a balance between the statement pieces and the clean simple design. A few simple, quality pieces can define the room with sophistication and simplicity. The hallmarks of present-day design style include clean, curved lines, natural materials, stark contrasts, cool tones, and attention to quality. Whites, grays, and beige tones provide a timeless and versatile foundation for contemporary design. It is all about quality and durability.

SIDING CLADDING WALL
Siding, also known as wood cladding, is a building material installed on the exterior facade to protect it from damage providing a degree of thermal insulation and weather resistance and improve the appearance of buildings. Redwood is considered by many to be one of the most durable types of wood siding. It doesn't shrink as much as other types, which helps reduce warping and cupping. Other noteworthy durable ones include cedar, cypress, and wood fiber cement. Much goes into a wall beneath the home siding, including studs and framing, sheathing, underlayment, insulation, flashing, interior surface, trim, and paint. Cedar siding often comes with 25-year warranties but does require regular maintenance. Wood siding significantly increases your home's value due to its natural charm and cozy ambiance. It's a classic siding material that has stood the test of time.

WASHROOMS & ENSUITES
This room is commonly known as a "bathroom" in American English, a "washroom" in Canadian English. A room with toilets and sinks is referred to as a washroom. A room that allows one to take a bath is referred to as a bathroom. Canadians do not typically use the term bathroom but use the term washroom & powder room instead. A good layout is the foundation of a great washroom design. This is what makes your washroom function in a practical and cohesive way. To create a successful layout, you need to think about how the room will be used and how many people will be using it. How does the space need to flow?

GARAGES
Why are they called garages? By about 1912, architects were hailing the invention of this 'new kind of outbuilding' and calling it a garage; a word derived from the French word “garer”, which means to shelter or protect. In some towns, large, privately owned garages were constructed, and automobile owners rented space for their car. Concrete slabs are considered the cheapest foundation for homes and garages, which typically cost $8–$15 per square foot. The most economical garage size is 24' X 32' – for many homeowners, this size is the perfect answer to the question of, “what size garage do I need?” The greater width and length mean that these garages can accommodate two cars comfortably as well as providing supplemental storage, making this one of the most cost-effective garages.

RETAINING WALLS
The timeless appeal of natural stone makes it a sought-after choice for the best retaining wall materials. Whether it's granite, limestone, or sandstone, natural stone adds a touch of elegance to any landscape. Its durability and resistance to weathering make it a long-lasting option. All retaining walls require adequate drainage systems to make them safe and sturdy. The labor required to build a retaining wall can be extensive. Therefore, labor costs can quickly add up depending on the project's complexity. Soil saturation is the most common external factor that causes retaining wall failure, but there are many ways to prevent it. A typical reason for retaining wall collapse is poor drainage. The water behind the wall may accumulate, creating pressure that may eventually cause the wall to collapse. To stop water from collecting behind the wall, ensure enough drainage.

PATHWAYS
Although a width of 3 feet is typically recommended for main pathways for front entrances or leading to an entertainment area, it depends on the scale of the house. Primary walkways should ideally be a minimum of 48” (1.25m) wide. This width is to accommodate two walking side by side. For any two people to walk together, 5.0 feet of space is the bare minimum. Stepping stones are an excellent design choice for those seeking an organically designed walkway. Unlike pavers, stepping stones are arranged individually to form a walkway within your existing landscape. Since they are made from natural stone, stepping stones typically have unique designs and colors. The stepping stone pavers are a single unit, so, unlike a path made of continuous slabs, they have no edge to prevent them moving – known as 'lateral slippage'. And the simplest way to prevent the stones or slabs from moving is to bed them on mortar or compacted sand.

WATERFRONT LIVING
In Ontario, permits are required to place a structure that physically touches more than 15 square metres of shore lands – i.e., the lake bottom. As such, floating and cantilever docks, boathouses with cribs less than 15 square meters and swim rafts do not require work permits. Shoreline law in Ontario is built on the common law concept of “riparian rights” for tidal waters. Individuals who own land next to a body of water are granted specific rights regarding the reasonable use of the water and shoreline along their property. Residential buildings and accessory structures are required to be set back 30.0 meters from the high-water mark of a lake or river. Because of its great depth, the Lake Ontario as a whole does not completely freeze in winter, but an ice sheet covering between 10% and 90% of the lake area typically develops, depending on the severity of the winter. Ice sheets typically form along the shoreline and in slack water bays, where the lake is not as deep.
