With everything the Shuswap and surrounding areas have been through with wildfires over the last few years, FireSmarting continues to be something we feel strongly about.

This year, we’re going to be pushing FireSmart projects as much as we can throughout our local communities — helping homeowners take practical steps to better protect their properties before fire season is at its worst.

We’ll be offering free FireSmart property assessments, as well as sprinkler installations for those who are interested in adding another layer of protection around their homes and properties.

There’s no way to eliminate the risk of wildfire, but there is a lot we can do ahead of time to make our homes and communities more resilient.

If you’re in the Shuswap or surrounding area and want to know what can be done around your property, reach out. We’re happy to come take a look, walk through some options, and help where we can.

Let’s do what we can to protect our homes, our neighbours, and the communities we call home. 🔥🌲

Hey yall! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend 😊

I'm going to highlight this Maple Tree 🌳 in Canoe Beach -- previously pruned on one side because the neighbor didn't like the winged pods dropping on their driveway. (Then they sold their house 1 year later 👌)

The pruning killed the tree due to structure inbalance. We had to remove this maple because in a wind-storm large lead-branches were falling off onto the house and front-yard

If you’re pruning lilacs, timing matters! ⏲️

The best window to prune is about 2–4 weeks after blooming. That gives the plant enough time to set next year’s flower buds.

✂️ Prune too late in summer or fall… and you’ll likely cut off next spring’s blooms before they even happen.

A light thinning and removal of deadwood can also improve airflow and overall plant health. 🌿
