Had to post this because wood is such a special thing ! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17VwCpQwcs/
Hidden beneath Lake Waccamaw for nearly a millennium, a 28-foot canoe — likely crafted by ancestors of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe — has been uncovered in stunning condition.
Its design reveals the skill and innovation of early Indigenous peoples who navigated waterways for trade, fishing, and connection. Preserved by the lake’s chemistry, the canoe remains a powerful link to a living heritage — a story carved in wood, now resurfaced after 1,000 years.
