Exercising your right to refuse unsafe work can take many forms. I have stressed to work crews over the years to refuse rather than take the chance; something I don’t recall ever doing myself. Today was the day. The roads in Alberta were absolutely horrible this morning and I gave up my early morning journey to a worksite to preserve my safety. Clients, bosses and significant others that truly care for your safety will encourage you to not travel on days like today. If you have those that try to force or shame you into completing work that you feel is unsafe, they don’t care for your well-being and you need to end the relationship. Keep your headlights/taillights on all day in weather like this and don’t travel if it isn’t absolutely necessary. Be safe out there.
