We understand that as home owners (like ourselves) in this fast paced world we can forget about the small things. That is why Shoreline is providing our knowledge and experience to ensure that your home is running efficiently preventing any future damage to your plumbing and heating systems.

The cold seasons are upon us, it is a great idea to ensure your furnace is running ahead of time to avoid any problems you may encounter when the cold weather comes and your furnace is not ready. Here are quick steps to ensure you are ready to take on the winter months:

-Replace the furnace filter.
-If your thermostat runs on batteries make sure its got lots of power as an un-energized thermostat wont tell the furnace that there is a call for heat (this is a common call we get).
-Set your thermostat high enough to start your furnace.
-wait 1 minute and put your hand over a register to ensure proper heat and airflow are present

Shoreline would like to share our knowledge and experience with you to ensure your home is running safely and efficiently, and to prevent any damage to your plumbing and heating systems.

In this week's tip we would like to point out a common and easly avoidable issue. On newer appliances you can have peace of mind knowing that there are several safeties that protect you and your family from a multitude of issues, one of which being a FLAMMABLE V***R SENSOR for some newer GAS WATER HEATERS. This sensor (located by your gas valve) is very sensitive to strongly scented fumes, as it's purpose is to sense a natural gas leak. This being said the v***r sensor can be set off by other strongly scented things (most commonly paint cans). If the flammable v***r sensor is set off, your water heater will shut down and not re-ignite. Try to avoid placing things near your water heater to avoid this issue.

Hello everyone we hope you've been enjoying the summer months with the fantastic weather we have been having.
We would like to take a moment of your time to educate you on another piece of information about our trade that could potentially save someone stress down the road.
In the pictures ive posted you will see what is known as "Poly B" pipe... this pipe was installed in the 70's and was discontinued in the 90's as they found issues with it as time went on, the fittings were cracking and failing, they had issues with pressure and heat and the chlorine in your water would eat the pipe from the inside out. If you see this in your home when you decide to do a reno consider replacing it with the modern "pex" we use today.

This week we would like to ensure you are keeping the areas near your appliance's intakes and hot air registers clear. It is dangerous to place clutter (especially combustables) around your furnace and or on top of your water heater, these appliances have a flame that causes your home or water to be warm. 3ft of clearance in front of these appliances is what our gas code dictates.

It is also important that you don't cover your return air grills or your hot air registers as it can cause issues with airflow, resulting in improper heating and damage to your furnace.

Shoreline would like to share our knowledge and experience with you to ensure your home is running safely and efficiently, and to prevent any damage to your plumbing and heating systems.

This week's issue is improper furnace venting. In the pictures I have posted you will notice discoloration in the furnace venting pipe from white to a lighter brown color. This is the result of your venting overheating, which is caused by improper installation or a restriction in the venting itself. This could pose potential issues down the road as it causes your venting pipe to thin and possibly break apart, causing your exhaust to vent within your home. If you see this in your home you should consider getting a licensed gas fitter to properly install or fix this issue.
