Can DC315 be used over EPS, XPS or ICF products or be used to protect structural steel?
* DC315 Fireproof Paint is designed for thermosetting (non-melting) type plastics like spray polyurethane foam and is not designed for substrates other than spray polyurethane foam.
If I need to achieve a 1-hour rating can I install DC315 thicker to meet the rating?
*DC315 has been tested in accordance with ASTME119 and CAN/ULC S-101 for 1 hr fire resistance in certain wall or floor assemblies. Contact IFTI to discuss further.
Can I apply DC315 all year long?
*DC315 is an interior water based acrylic and will freeze at temperatures below 0°C. Recommended installation temperature of a minimum of 10°C must be maintained for the duration of installation and curing. It is also important to monitor humidity and do not install DC315 when humidity is over 85% or temperature is within 3°C of the dewpoint.
Can I use a topcoat?
* Interior water-based vinyl/acrylic such as Sherwin Williams A-100, Promar 400, 200 or dryfall paint products are suitable to apply over DC315. In these cases, the use of a topcoat offers a much higher architectural finish and the full scale testing we have completed verifies that the topcoat will not negatively impact the performance of the coating. Can DC315 be tinted?
* DC315 can be tinted with up to 1 oz per gallon of standard tints.
What Mil Thickness do I need?
* Always refer to the IFTI testing matrix to ensure proper mil thickness and coverage rate for the specific type of foam blend being used. https://painttoprotect.com/matrix/
Where is a thermal barrier required?
* All model building codes require that SPF, with some exceptions, must be separated from the interior of the building by an “approved thermal barrier.” Therefore, unless an exception applies, all interior SPF applications are required to be covered with an approved thermal barrier or be part of an approved alternative thermal barrier assembly.
Where is an Ignition Barrier Required?
* One exception to the requirement for a thermal barrier is for attics and crawlspaces that are accessed only for the servicing of utilities and are not used for storage. In these cases an ignition barrier is required.
