George Stone & Sons Inc. is proud to support the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
We believe in giving back to the community whenever we can, and the Foundation is truly a cause worth supporting. It plays a vital role in meeting the healthcare needs of the Algoma region by ensuring the Sault Area Hospital has access to the essential equipment, tools, and technology needed to provide the highest standard of care.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Mike Siemers.
Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with the family and many friends.
July 24, 1957 - May 17, 2024
“If you're reading this, you'll know I lost my battle with pancreatic cancer.”
Mike passed away peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice with his wife and best friend, Darlene, by his side at the age of 66. Born to Waltrud and Hans Joachim Siemers, who predeceased him, Mike lived a life full of love, dedication, and community service.
He was the proud and devoted father of Terri Giosa (Derrick), Danny (Erin), and Shaun (Joanne). He cherished all of his grandchildren - grandpa to Jayven and Kierra, papa to Rori and Edie, and bonus grandpa to Daik and Zoe. Bonus grandpa also to Darlene’s grandchildren - Adia, Eli, Ashtyon, Carson, Amethyst, Christopher, Nola and Nash. Mike was a much-loved big brother to Doris and Tina, and a fun-loving brother-in-law to Danielle (late Blair), Donald (Michelle) Dina (Paul), late Danny (Doreen), late Derrick (Joanne). Mike will also be missed by Jaime McMillan, many nieces and nephews, his best friends Fred and Cindy Shaughnessy, and the wife of his children Tammy Mitchell (Tom).
After graduating Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS), Mike pursued his passion for carpentry by attending trade school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He became a talented carpenter and eventually a supervisor with several companies, including George Stone & Sons and Ellis Don. Mike was also a proud member of the Local 246 Carpenter's Union, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Outside of friends and family, giving back to his local community was one of Mike’s greatest joys. He dedicated his time to his children's hockey and baseball teams, and recently found a passion volunteering with the Echo Bay Elks, in particular the baseball and cribbage leagues.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Nurses Amy (and her little buddy Betty White), and Jessica, for the compassionate care they showed Mike, and all the staff at ARCH.
Cremation has been entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522). A graveside service will take place on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 11am at Maple Leaf Cemetery (Maple Leaf Road, Echo Bay). Celebration of Life will follow at the Echo Bay Elks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Echo Bay Elks #535 or be provided in trust to Darlene Siemers for the upkeep of the Echo Bay Elks ball fields. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Siemers family.

It is with great pleasure that we announce Mike Siemers as the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional Senior of the year.
Despite his own personal health issues, he is always willing to help in our community. Mike has made an immeasurable impact over the last few years by always ensuring our youth have a clean and maintained ball field to play on. Mike is always the first person at the baseball field to ensure they have been dragged and chalked prior to game time for both the youth and adult leagues in our community.
Last year our community was faced with an upsetting situation where our entire soccer field was vandalized and torn up by some adolescents that thought it would be fun to use our soccer field as a racetrack, which ultimately destroyed our soccer fields rendering them unsafe for our soccer league to continue. We were faced with a situation where over 140 kids were put out because of this unfortunate and senseless crime. Mike Siemers didn’t hesitate to step up to the plate. He took it upon himself to quickly organize over 20 volunteers that showed up to the soccer fields the very next day. They had tractors, rakes, and shovels and within a matter of hours they had our soccer fields looking new again.
Mike is also a very active member of the Echo Bay Elks and donates his time for countless events such as field maintenance, pancake breakfasts and fish fry’s.
His contribution to others becomes all the more impressive when you consider the many personal health challenges that he himself has endured over the years.
Mike has inspired many in our community to become more involved and share our talents with those around us to make a positive change in our community.
On behalf of the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional we would like to present Mike Siemers as our Senior of the Year and thank him for his continued services to our community.
Thank you Mike!
