Full office fit out; Desk, Record Cabinet and Custom Art Easel! What a lovely project to work on for such amazing clients. I don't often get to use traditional joinery as it takes time and precision but this project was perfect for some well executed mortise and tenon joinery. What a pleasure.

Big thanks to and for all the help with this. It's was a big one and the help was great.

FINALLY getting around to posting some pics of this finished dining table, the Bartoli. I built this last year for my most special client . Hope she likes it 😘

I find naming furniture to be a strange endeavor when often the name has seemingly no meaning. So I decided to name things I make after the first person I made them for. Here you go!

A few process shots for my dining table.

This week I'll be making a number of post about my dining table build. As a furniture maker I dont often have the time or energy to make my family our own beautiful furniture but I decided to squeeze in building my own dining table. I've been dreaming of building this dining table for some time and once I decided I was going to do it I got quite obsessed, which often happens in projects, sometimes to a fault. Thinking over and over again about every tiny detail and how each part will fit together as a whole. Usually causing some anxiety. This project was no different but I am certainly happy with the way it is all coming together and I know this may be the last dining table I ever build for myself so it was worth the frustration. I was able to test out a number of new techniques that I was able to execute with overall pretty good results and I'd like to share some of that journey.

After seeing some awesome dovetail joinery from who built a mantle for someone I decided to try something similar for the table legs. One big dovetail but for added detail and possibly unnecessary complexity I added a "houndstooth" which is a reverse dovetail in the centre. The stretcher you see was relatively simple to cut but the leg post was quite challenging. Will share more tomorrow about that. Enjoy!

Lock and key sliding dovetail I've decided to call it 😁.

Back working on the big dining table project. This shows one of the four rails that spans the underside of the table top to help keep everything flat over the years. It isnt glued in place which allows the top to expand and contract with the seasons.

Usually I would have used a regular sliding dovetail but then you have a little gap to fill at one end of the table top. This way the entire joint is hidden with no gaps to fill.

Big thank you to .no1 for the idea I stumbled across on YouTube. Check them out.

What a day!!πŸ€ͺ. I feel a little crazy

I finally have these dining table leg joints roughed in. It ended up being much more complex that I thought when designing it πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I seem to have a habit of doing that. Now I see them coming together I know it will be worth the effort.
