Checking in large timbers can't be eliminated, but it can be minimized. These huge columns started out as very waney 27x27 boxed heart. We cut them in half, then Radio Frequency dried the pieces. This minimized the amount of stress that could build up. Then we dressed and glued the cut back together again in our glulam press. Finally, we turned the piece round, then sliced it in half again and machined out the HSS profile and joinery.

The results of RF drying speak for themselves.
