The Cribbies, Tors Cove.
A few years back, we decided to pack up our lives and move a little ways out of the city to Tors Cove, trading convenience for a quieter, slower paced life.
In a small coastal village I was never sure how our business would fare, as two trained carpenters with careers spent in dense subdivisions, I never considered we would have competition in our handy neighbours.
A few months back we were approached to take on quite a historical restoration in Tors Cove, a small house known as “The Cribbies” locally, likely the most iconic building on the Southern Shore. I’ve known of this house since I was a small boy, as a photo of it hung in my grandfathers cabin, at the time I had no idea that the house was even in Newfoundland, but was always fond of it. This area became my favourite day trip, hiking destination as a teenager and a natural choice when we decided to relocate to the Southern Shore. It was a bit eerie when the restoration came my way, but was honoured to take it on.
This place has become my favourite job site of my career, everyday here is peaceful, no noise of human activity, just the ocean rolling in and conversations with locals and passersby intrigued by the project.
These progress photos capture phase one, completing the “rough” carpentry. We look forward to showcasing phase two, finishing the house with period correct finishes from &
