George update! And introducing Kevin!
A few days after the last George post, I found the chrysalis, hanging from the underside of the tables that hold the potted plants. George found the perfect spot! Sheltered from rain, sun, and wind, but also hidden from predators (and me!!) I checked on it daily. On Monday August 3rd, I was in and out of the backyard in the early morning. I had a feeling George would emerge soon, so went to check. I looked towards the table at the exact moment George flew up from under the table and land on the cardinal flowers! George hung out on the cardinal flowers for a few minutes and posed for a picture, before flying away. How do I know it was George? I've never seen a monarch below the height of the tables before (except for some rogue clover in the lawn, there are no flowers at ground level in the entire yard). George also was flying a little "wobbly", almost like a baby bird taking their first awkward flights! I wished George well and I am so thankful that I got to witness such an amazing process.
But who's Kevin? Kevin is the monarch caterpillar found on the swamp milkweed in my front garden last week! The neighbourhood kids helped name him and as a group, we've decided that all caterpillars from now on shall be named after the Minions characters! 🤣😁 Kevin has since disappeared, presumably to enter into the next stage somewhere else in the garden, but I'm super excited that my little yard is doing exactly what I want it to do - support nature!!

Hello eARTh Revival friends!
I'm wondering whether there would be sufficient interest to host some type of open house event in the late summer or early fall where you could come for a set amount of time (1-2 hours?) to see how eARTh Revival runs behind the scenes and learn more about supporting pollinators in your garden. Is there anything in particular you would want to come and see or learn? If you'd be interested or have specific topics you'd like to learn about, please feel free comment below or shoot me an email ([email protected]).

I would like to formally introduce George! (Yes, I named the caterpillar. And yes, I am now fully invested in the growth and development of George!)

George took the leaves and tops off of 2 more plants by this morning before travelling across the table to check out the long-beaked sedge pots and then into some nearby asters. According to a more experienced person (thanks Allison!), George is likely searching for a place to form a chrysalis. I have asked George to do so in a place where I can continue to watch and take pictures but I'm not sure George speaks English. 🤣

Perhaps I need to change the details of my next sale: Buy one Monarch Butterfly caterpillar, get one baby rose/swamp milkweed plant without any leaves left free with your purchase! 🤣😂

This lovely gift was awaiting me on my return from vacation this afternoon!!! I have no idea where this one has been hiding, but it's about 2.5 inches long! There are 2 plants stripped bare of leaves with lots of frass (caterpillar p**p) in the pots below and it's about halfway through the leaves of the plant I found it on.

So for anyone wondering if their newly planted native plants will attract pollinators or if they'll have to wait a few years... if you grow it, they will come! 🥰

To celebrate the official beginning of summer, we're having a sale!

We have many mature plants (2-4 years old) that would be much happier out of their little pots and into a garden. This means that select species and select pot sizes will be 25-50% off from June 25 - July 4, 2026.

Thank you again!!

I am feeling so grateful today after the second in-person sale of the year today. Thank you to all who came by to talk about gardening with native plants and take a few new plants home to your gardens. It was especially exciting to send plants home with multiple people who are not new to gardening but are new to gardening with native plant species! Welcome to the club! 😁

Between now and the end of July, keep an eye on the website for updated inventory and new arrivals. We have many mature plants and winter sown seedlings that will be potted over the next 2 weeks and ready for sale in the next 4-8 weeks, along with some "late bloomers" that have taken their time to wake up this year!

And for anyone who's already wondering, yes there will be another in-person sale in the late summer or early fall, but no, I don't know when yet! 😉

Don't forget there is another sale this coming Sunday! Species that will be available at this sale are listed on the website, with potentially more to be added over the next couple of days.

We will be running rain or shine and the sale will happen in the back yard this time. Please wear appropriate footwear and watch out for our bumpy lawn and the presence of flying/buzzing/stinging things.
(And don't judge our weeds, our own gardens get a bit neglected this time of year!😁)

Thank you to everyone who came by on Sunday to chat about gardening with native plants and take a few new friends home to your gardens! You braved the cool breeze and threat of rain! My heart is so full after all of the conversations I had with so many people are transforming even the smallest of corners of their yards into pollinator habitat. Each of you is doing something amazing and I am truly thankful to be even a small part of it!

Don't forget the next in-person sale will be Sunday June 7, 2026. Full details are on earthrevival.ca and a list of plants available for that day will be posted no later than the Thursday before. We're crossing our fingers and toes that mother nature finally agrees that the weather should match the calendar so more species will be ready to go! 🤣
