This week, we're celebrating the teachers and educators in our community. 💛

Picture the kindergarten teacher who had all thirty names memorized before the first week was out. The EA who quietly makes the whole day work for one kid who needs it. The high school teacher your teenager actually mentions at dinner. The early childhood educator at the daycare down the road who has been raising this neighbourhood's kids alongside you for years.

They're shaping the next generation of Kanata South and Stittsville. This winter, we'd like to look after one of them.

❄️ WHY NOMINATE
We see it every winter. The buses get cancelled, the schools stay open, and teachers get in their cars and drive anyway. On the worst mornings of the year, they're the ones making sure the day still happens for everybody else's kids.

A free season means one less thing to handle on those mornings. No 5AM shovel before a full day with a room full of kids who would rather be playing in the snow.

❄️ A RESOURCE WORTH PASSING ALONG

The Snow-Go Assist Program helps low-income seniors and adults with disabilities cover up to 50% of their snow removal costs. Funded by the City of Ottawa and run locally by the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, this program makes sure vulnerable residents can maintain safe access to their homes all winter long. 💛

To qualify, you generally need to be 60 or older or an adult with a physical disability, receiving a benefit like GIS or ODSP, with no one in the home physically able to do the shovelling.

📅 Applications go out in October and close in early December. Funding is limited and it's first come, first served, so apply early.

This week, we're celebrating the seniors in our community. 💛

Picture the gentleman down the street who waves every morning when you're walking the dog. Your mum or dad, still in the house you grew up in, still insisting they're managing just fine. The neighbour who has been on your street longer than anyone and knows every family on it. The woman two doors down who left soup on your porch the week the baby came.

They've spent decades looking after everyone else. This winter, we'd like to look after one of them.

❄️ WHY NOMINATE
We've been clearing driveways in Kanata South and Stittsville for 22 seasons. We know these streets. And every single winter we drive past someone in their seventies or eighties out at the end of their driveway, chipping away at the wall of ice the plow left behind. That's the one we think about the whole way home. A free season means no more of that. No strain, no ice underfoot, no 6AM phone call from a son or daughter who lives too far away to come help.

☀️ OUR SUMMER SHUTDOWN IS HERE! ☀️

We're closed the week of August 3rd for our annual company-wide summer holiday. It's become one of our favourite Capital family traditions. 💛

Our year-round crew works hard through every season, so once a year we give them a full week to rest, recharge, and soak up some summer fun with the people they love. Because we care for the people who take care of you. 🫶

✨ Update: WOW! Our Village reached the Manitoba Match goal in just ONE day, which means 12 additional community dogs will now receive care.

Thank you so much for helping us help these dogs. ❤️

Even though we reached this goal, every sponsorship still matters! We’ll continue accepting donations until Saturday’s clinic. The need is still there, and we would love to help as many dogs as possible.

Capital Services has generously offered to match up to $750 in community dog sponsorships—but we need our Village to unlock it.
