Ted Sheitel announced his retirement this past Friday. Grant Colliar and Brandon Yorke managed to grab a photo with him, though neither is convinced it will be the last one they take on a job site together.

It’s been 14 years since Grant first stepped onto the 202 job as a green hard hat under Ted’s white hat. Over the years, they’ve worked side by side, building a friendship and respect that has stood the test of time.

The truth is, Ted has always loved the work, the people, and being part of the team. Retirement may call his name every now and then, but the job site has a way of calling him back.

Teddy, congratulations on your retirement! We hope you enjoy every minute of it. But if the urge to come back strikes again, you know where to find us.

Behind the Paddle: Lisa Welland

For Lisa, safety starts before the work day begins. As a mom, she wants her children to have fun - whether it’s on the playground, a camping trip, a sporting event, or out riding their bikes. At the end of the day, every parent wants the same thing: for their children to get home safely.

This is the same mindset she brings into her role at B&B: safety above all else.

As a Traffic Control Supervisor, Lisa sees the crews she works with as an extension of her family. She takes pride in being someone that her crew can count on and works hard to ensure the safety of her team and the public every day.

Lisa’s message is one that resonates both on and off the job: “A good day at work is a safe day. Make amazing memories, whether you’re at work or at home.”

We are very grateful to Lisa for her care, dedication and steady presence. Your commitment to the safety of our crews and the public does not go unnoticed.

There’s nothing like a little breakfast with your safety presentations! Our gas division gathered at our Abbotsford office to hold a safety review, focusing on providing quality service and product while ensuring that we hold ourselves to the highest safety standards.

Jose, Shaun, Michelle and Darren cheffed up a hot breakfast on the Blackstone, and then the team launched into presentations. Brandon and Shaun spoke to the team, and Melissa paid a visit from HQ to her old haunt! It was a great way to break up the week and connect across our division. We hope to make this an annual event, allowing for goal setting and continuity across crews. Safety first, but team bonding second. 💪

A crew of B&Bers - Doug Larlee, Jack Law, Mike Wahlstrom, Adrian Kerkhoven and Seth Hebler - headed up to Squamish this weekend for some climbing. Behind the Paddle: a series where we highlight the incredible traffic control personnel who help to keep our crews, drivers and communities safe - every day.

Today’s feature is Rosa Fincaryk, a talented TCP from Sunrise Flagging. Rosa frequently works on B&B sites, and shares that she can feel the culture of safety when she’s working alongside B&Bers. She says that safety isn’t just a part of her job - it’s personal. Making sure that everyone gets home safely and to their families is a huge motivator for her.

She says, “Safety is my number one priority, and it’s what we strive for daily.”

A big thank you to Rosa for her continued commitment and admirable work ethic. She is described as an incredibly personable and dedicated worker and we are very happy to have her on site. Keep up the fantastic work, Rosa! 💪

We had a great time last Friday at the ICBA - Independent Contractors and Businesses Association Meet The Generals conference. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with suppliers and vendors from across the Lower Mainland - as well as check out what kind of swag was sitting on each table. (Should we cave and do an excavator sugar cookie next year?)

We’re thrilled to showcase Alison McAra of Sunrise Flagging. Alison is a professional at all times, working as the lead TCS on our large Fortis projects in the Valley.

Working with Johnny Seymour and crew is like second nature to Allie; she understands the work, scope and the client’s expectations and rises to them - if not exceeds them.
