We’ve completed a high-visibility landscape enhancement project at Highland Ridge, transforming the main entrance and clubhouse frontage into a stunning and durable space.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞:
Located at both the main entrance and directly in front of the clubhouse, this area experiences constant foot traffic. Over time, constant foot traffic wore down the turf, leaving bare soil exposed. An earlier landscape design had used lightweight lava rock borders, which over time became a maintenance headache. During routine leaf and debris cleanup, the rocks would easily scatter, creating ongoing maintenance challenges.

We’re proud to be part of the Rapid Housing 3 project, helping deliver much-needed housing in the community.
Our landscape work began in February, covering both hardscape and softscape elements.
At the front, the retaining wall and pavers are in place. Next, we’ll install the irrigation system, add soil, plant selected areas, and lay turf where planned, finishing with mulch. At the back, a new fence will be installed, with soil and planting added between the building and the fence.

Despite it raining cats and dogs, our first hands-on-training day of 2026 was a great success!

An enthusiastic group of our emerging horticulturists were out in the field learning & practicing some of the essential skills and techniques that will keep our sites running smoothly this season.

This specific field training day was designed to prepare crews for February’s most critical work and ensure consistent technical and quality standards across teams and sites.

With guidance & instruction from three of our Red Seal certified horticulturists, the crews went through hands-on demos, learning the key tasks and technical details that really matter this season:

• Pre-emergent bed preparation
• Minor deciduous tree pruning for trees under 12 inches, including learning the “4 D’s” of pruning — identifying branches that are Dangerous, Dead, Diseased, or Deranged/Crossing — and understanding the clear boundaries between what crews handle and what requires an arborist.
• Deciduous shrub pruning and shearing

The teams met back at the Premier head office to dry off and warm up with some well-deserved pizza, chicken & beer!

“Why can’t we remove more? I want most of the branches on this side gone.” The short answer is no.

It’s a question we sometimes hear from facility & property managers, especially when trees block too much sunlight, resident sightlines, or are too close to resident units.
Here’s what our professional arborists say. In a single pruning, canopy removal should not exceed 25%. While heavy pruning might seem like a quick fix, removing too much at once can cause several issues.
· It stresses the tree and weakens its structure.
· It can trigger rapid, unstable regrowth or, in severe cases, even lead to the tree’s death.

Last week we completed a tree pruning project perfectly timed for this season. Our ISA certified arborists carefully assessed each tree, balancing the site needs with long-term health and structural stability.
