Back when these houses were built, nobody left enough room in the porch. When you come home from work, you’d like a spot to sit down, take off your boots or slide out of your high heels, and put them away so they’re ready for next time. Not much to ask.

So we built this mudroom addition to fix that. New entry door, siding to match, proper lighting, and enough room to actually turn around in.

Sometimes the best upgrade isn’t the kitchen or the bathroom. It’s the room that keeps the rest of the house clean.

Big week. Basement water repair done. Sidewalks poured. Metal siding up. A customer’s new place tuned up top to bottom — dragging doors and all. Two roofs mid-shingle and counting.

A client named Sharon sent us a thank you card with a gift certificate to Wong’s Kitchen. She had no way of knowing Wong’s has been part of my life since before I could hold chopsticks.

So today the whole crew ate lunch on Sharon.

Five years ago it was just Dave, me and a truck. Today I needed two tables. Pretty proud of that.

Sharon, thank you. The card meant more than the certificate. But the crew says thanks for the certificate.

Owen Sletten officially enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces today. He had a football scholarship waiting for him. He chose to serve his country instead.

Trade: one football scholarship, straight across, for a flag. After basic training, he reports as a Gunner.

The job sites will be quiet come September. The country’s in good hands.

Jobs get a lot easier when you’ve got the right tools and the right people.

Today that meant a pump and hose from Western Concrete Pumping and some of the best concrete in Saskatchewan from the boys at Duracon. No wheelbarrows, no wrecked backs, no drama. Just a clean pour.

I lean on my crew hard, and they’ve never once let me down. Made this one look easy.

Good equipment matters. Good people matter more.

We fix leaky basements from the outside — excavation, waterproofing, drainage, the whole works. But here’s the thing about water: it doesn’t care about your drywall’s feelings.

So when it’s done wrecking things outside, we come inside and fix that too. Tape, mud, sand, paint. Good as new.

No “let me call my drywall guy.” No “we’ll have someone out in 3-4 weeks.” In Saskatchewan you learn to do it all yourself, because the nearest specialist is two hours away and he’s combining right now anyway.

And when the dump trailer needs a repair? Out comes the welding helmet. We fix the house, we fix the equipment — and every once in a while, we weld over a mistake and call it “extra reinforcement.”

One call. One crew. Done right.

Took Owen’s bike out this morning. He was asleep. That’s basically consent.

I’ve been a Honda man my whole life, so riding a Suzuki feels like cheating. Told myself it was just a quick lap around the block for quality control purposes.

It’s quick. Won’t be admitting that to him.
