Congratulations to our second feel the love winner, the GOAT: Maria Doyle!
Maria is a very active member in Swift Current in various aspects integral to the fabric of building a strong community; the arts, sports, at-risk youth, disability advocate, pet-rescue, encouraging inter-generational connections and caring for her family.
With the arts, Maria has been the part-time Front of House Manager at our local live theatre (Lyric Theatre) for the past 10 years. She is the most welcoming presence and familiar face with the venue as the person who has stuck with it through it all.
She brings her love of arts into her advocacy work in the Disability Community through her work in podcasts and acting. She is an actress with Listen to Dis’, a theatre company that works in telling story through the lens of the Disability Community, and additionally, she has taken on a huge entrepreneurial role by co-hosting a podcast called The Mixed Crips. This podcast supports voices and stories from the community and is actively involved in making positive changes in the lives of differently abled individuals.
She is also so funny and brings a smile and true joy to everyone she meets, and everyone who surrounds her!! Maria is a performer in the local amateur standup comedy group.
She is a role model, especially to the youth she works with at Dories house, a local youth treatment shelter, where she has a casual position. There, youth can see her love for life in the arts and disability community, but also her love for life in sport and game. She plays in the Women’s Hockey League in the winter, Slow Pitch in the summer, and Mahjong all year round.
Maria’s first love and career was in animal health and rescue. Her love for animals graduated her from Lakeland College in Vermillion, and she became a Master Dog Trainer in 2014? She spent 7.5 yrs working in animal shelters at the Swift Current SPCA and Regina RHS.
Lastly, Maria is very family oriented. She has dedicated a huge part of her life to caring for, and supporting her family through their long 16 year journey with cancer. Maria has been there by her side, and is still working alongside her as things keep moving forward.
All in all Maria is an amazingly hard-working community member, a joyful bright person, and gives herself incessantly to those around her. I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award.
