Veterans Memorial Crosswalk Completed in Downtown Kitimat

While walking through downtown Kitimat recently, I noticed crews working on a crosswalk along Tsimshian Boulevard and was curious to see the finished result. Now that the work is complete, I'm happy to share photos of a meaningful new addition to the community.

The newly painted crosswalk, located between Centennial Park and Upper City Centre, has been transformed into a tribute to Canada's veterans and fallen service members. Featuring red and white markings inspired by the Canadian flag, along with silhouettes of soldiers and the words "Lest We Forget," the crosswalk serves as a visible reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served our country.

The District of Kitimat announced earlier this month that single-lane alternating traffic would be in effect on July 14 to allow crews to complete the painting work.

This particular location was chosen because it marks the starting point of Kitimat's annual Remembrance Day Parade. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, participants gather here before making their way to the Cenotaph for the community's Remembrance Day ceremony, honouring those who served and those who never returned home.

A huge thank you goes out to Red Seal Painting, who donated both their time and materials to complete the project in support of local veterans.

It's always great to see community partnerships bring projects like this to life, especially when they help preserve and honour the stories and sacrifices of those who came before us.
