Ugh! What a day. After 1 night of separation, the goat mom's were like " what kids? I have kids?" It took a while and a lot of back and forth but i got everyone reunited. I did have to put pearl and her kid back in the barn as she was being particularly dumb. Angel gave up on her little runt girl. So she spent the day in the house being a bottle baby. She will be a bottle baby from now on. Back at it tomorrow.

I was going to put 4 moms and their kids outside today to join the herd but there is a bitterly cold north wind. It was getting me through my jacket that I wore all winter, it would definitely ignore the kids coats. So they stay inside till we have a more forgiving day.

Good info. Knowing about the anatomy of your animals is very beneficial in keeping track of their health and noticing if anything is starting to go wrong. A well structured mammary system will hold up to many years of producing delicious milk.

One way to support the mammary system is to do your best to prevent mastitis, use clean hands for milking, clean the udder before milking and use a teat dip afterwards as it can take 10 minutes for the teat or***ce to close after milking which can allow bacteria in.

Also keep in mind that dairy animals are high output and therefore need high input. You need to support that amazing mammary system with a good quality and well balanced diet, and enough of it, don't forget minerals as they are vital to goats thriving.

Getting lots of goose eggs now. I think I'll set some in the incubator this weekend. See how they do.
