Meet the Master Deck Builder, Garth Hutchinson, owner and builder at Decks Out Back. Garth and his wife moved to the beautiful area of Thessalon in 2020. His wife, Nancy (a former Saultite) was itching to get back to her roots, and Garth wanted a slower pace in life.
Garth has been in construction all of his life. He is a metal mechanic engineer by trade, and followed his father's passion for building. Garth has managed many projects, renovated many homes and built additions. He began focusing on decks, especially low-maintenance or composite decks. Garth listens to his customers and their vision of outdoor entertaining. He will design and build the perfect out-back experience for you and your family. He has over 30 years in building decks and 40 years in contracting.

For those most precious family members...
Toddlers can get into mischief very quickly. We often have gates on our stairs to make a safer area for the small humans and pets!
Here are safety tips to keep your beloved babies safe on any deck surface♡
🛠️ Surface Safety
Splinters: Composite decking is excellent—no splinters compared to wood 👍
Heat: Dark grey boards can get very hot in the sun, which can burn little hands/knees.
→ Test every surface with your hand first on sunny days, concrete, wood, tile and composite can get hot with those rays.
Slip risk: Composite with grooves in boards make it safer to walk on in wet and wintery conditions.
👶 Toddler-Friendly Additions
Outdoor rugs or Shade umbrella or canopy to keep surface cool
⚠️ Other Safety Checks (important!)
Glass railing gaps: Make sure spacing is too small for a child to squeeze through
Stairs: Add a baby gate at the top and bottom
