Paint finish fireplace skim.

Taped and skimmed in some fire-resistant board immediately around the fireplace. Not super fun, as it acts like a painted surface and not like raw drywall. Required several extra coats to fill bubbles that show up after the first coat. Turned out well though! 👌

Let’s talk about caulking. 🤔
So often I feel like caulking is an after thought. Was just talking with a siding guy and a tile/glass guy. Sentiments echoed. A guy can do a great job on a making a custom glass door for a shower, or do a sweet siding job…then send the new guy to finish up the caulking. No offense to new guys. Actually, sometimes the pros are not much better.
Like with all things finishing, caulking isn’t something to just check off on your project’s todo list. It takes care and careful ex*****on. Attention to detail shows in the final product. I admire, envy and aspire to clean, crisp lines. I find myself always checking the caulking details on a trim paint job. Of course we are not perfect, but we have a high standard for how we think caulking should look. Here is a door jamb we did (caulk and paint) and one by a competitor. We take some extra steps in our process and I think it shows.
