This year we only have tomato plants for sale - I have a lot more other plants but we decided not to sell our plants but rather grow them for our friends and family - help people we love during rough times.

If a few of you want some cucumber plants, squashes and pumpkins - just DM us - we can part with a couple plants to help out fellow gardeners :)

Mia here…
I was just chatting with my mama on the phone - we live far apart :(

I told her how much I miss her and wish I was hanging out with her, so I could spoil her with love and laughter.

She said, being the wonderfully amazing woman she is - “All the things you want to shower me with, give away to other people. This is how we celebrate life and love.”

So that’s what I am going to do....

Every Sunday, this month, we will be giving away FREE GIFTS to celebrate my mama :)

We do things a tad different around here, so our plants will be ready for their new homes come June 2021.

The Forgotten Players...

When we talk about real food, most people forget about the contribution to our land that is made by the moon, the sun, the root systems, the wind, the microclimates and CO2.

The moon influences life on this planet - for example creating strong tides & affecting the angle of the earth’s tilt which results in a relatively stable climate so we can actually live on this planet.

The sun needs no introduction nor explanation - but we need to say that most people don’t take a moment to appreciate and have awareness of the sun as a key player in real food. We kinda just take it for granted. No sun - no green plants - no oxygen for life on earth!!

The oxygen that we get from our fellow green plant friends is like a trade for CO2. You see CO2 gets a bad rep - climate change and all.

But it’s not the CO2 that’s the problem - it’s the industries which have created commercialized mass consumption. We forget CO2 is needed (just not as much as they currently are pumping out).

We could discuss these forgotten players for days…but we think you get the point for now lol

The Water Players,

Usually not noticed by many & hardly ever given credit.

We all know how important water is - did you know the brain and heart are composed of 73% water??

Safe to say, keeping our water healthy, clean and thriving is a priority.

The water players include the aquatic plants, aquatic animals & bacteria, streams, rivers, wetlands, lakes and rain

Wetlands control flooding and unite water and land - all while acting as a filtration system for the land and controlling pollution.

Lake ecosystems are the homes for many animals like frogs, snails, worms, turtles, marsh birds, beavers, snakes and many insects.

There is so much to be learned about the water players and how they navigate your land on which real food grows/produced.

For now we leave you with this one fact: There is the same amount of water on Earth today as there was when dinosaurs roamed this planet. Less than 1% of that water is available to meet the daily drinking water, sanitation and food needs of nearly 7 Billion people and millions of other species (National Geographic, 2021)

We are lucky to be surrounded by fresh water sources in Thunder Bay - so let’s start having a better relationship with it.

Ahhh The Land Players…

You see it all begins with these players and ends with them too.

The microorganisms, fungi, bacteria and soil biology have countless roles in nature and one of them is to break down things, so the minerals and nutrients are available for the next generation of plants & trees.

Without thriving land players, your land becomes depleted and no longer a welcoming home to nature.

You want real food? You need the help of the land players.

And remember - every time you disturb the ground, poke and dig, you’re disturbing the home of land players that are helping you grow your forests, plants and real food. Be mindful this spring!
