This mature white spruce was unfortunately killed by a metal chain that was wrapped around it. This is called “girdling” and it chokes off the flow of nutrients up the tree. Some people do this intentionally for future firewood harvest but this was accidental. The tree was a hazard to a garage and had to be removed.
