Google Smart Ads don't advertise on Google:

Just a heads up to any small business out there thinking that they might want to use Google Smart Ads to promote their business:

I utilized this method and got charged for about 270 clicks. Only 3 of those clicks came from Google searches. The rest were from "Google Partner Sites". Apparently Google gets other sites to post your ads and charges you for clicks on those sites.

If you use their "Smart" ad you have no control over which partner sites they give your add to so you have no idea of the audience. I suspect that clicks on the other sites where by bots. So I paid for over 260 clicks that likely had zero hope of a return.

It is my understanding that if you don't use the "Smart" ad option you can specify that you want your advertising to occur on Google and/or YouTube only.

I hope this helps some other small business out there before they waste money on a Google "Smart" campaign.

Need "survey" work done?
Know the difference between a "surveyor" and a professionally licensed Land Surveyor:
Anyone can provide survey services, with or without training and experience.
PROFESSIONALLY LICENSED Land Surveyors go through a defined training and testing process to confirm their capabilities.
Provincial and federal legislations dictate that only professional licensed Land Surveyors can comment on, find, retrace and set boundaries between properties in Canada. NOTE: If you search for "surveyor" you will find both licensed and non-licensed versions. Even if you use search terms like "Ontario Land Surveyor" you may be directed to companies that can't provide these services.
IF your survey needs require an understanding of where a property boundary actually is, look for an indication that the company is legally able to provide these services. Terms such as Ontario Land Surveyor and Canada Lands Surveyor are restricted to licensed professionals by statute law. Look for the use of these terms when you need boundary related services.

If anyone is interested in what this is......
Old surveys were designed to be retraced so that boundaries could be found again years later. Monuments were placed at property corners and "ancillary" monuments were also placed to help restore the original corner.
This is an example of "ancillary" monumentation known as a Bearing Tree (or BT for short). The tree, which was much smaller at the time of the original survey, was marked with a blaze that faced the monument. The distance and bearing (usually derived by compass and tape) were measured to the monument marking the corner. Thus, if the corner was removed or otherwise destroyed, it could be accurately replaced using the Bearing Tree.
This particular Bearing Tree was set in 1948 and found again in 2022. The tree had covered the original blaze completely, leaving only a vertical seem in the bark. Once I had confirmed that this was indeed the Bearing Tree noted on the original survey, I was able to measure from it to find the tip of the original wooden corner post (in a moss covered stone mound) that was set 74 years earlier!
